The Helix Bridge, Singapore

4.4
Considered one of modern architecture's marvels, The Helix Bridge is modeled after the double helix shape found in strands of DNA. Opened in 2010, the 280 m (920 ft) stainless steel pedestrian bridge has become a striking feature and an icon of Singapore. Take great photos of the city's skyline from this landmark structure, which offers comprehensive views day and night. If you visit at after dark, you can admire the bridge's impressive multicolored lighting. Unless you're into construction, it's really just a fancy bridge. But it's free and you probably need to cross at some point anyway, so go for it.  more »

The double helix pedestrian bridge is futuristic and an architectural masterpiece. From the deck you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view.

Everyone who walks around the bay crosses over here and in the evening it offers some good photo spots. As well as being lit at night it has some viewing platforms to get good views of the bridge and the bay

Not only is The Helix Bridge an easy way to get from Marina Centre to Marina South, it is an attraction in and of itself. The bridge offers great day and night views of the bay and is one of the most architecturally interesting pedestrian bridges that I have seen. The bridge opened on 24 April 2010, the design was inspired by the form of the curved DNA structure. At night pairs of colored letters c and g, as well as a and t on the bridge light up at night in red and green to represent cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine, the four bases of DNA. If you visit Singapore you will inevitably find yourself on one side of this footbridge, cross it and enjoy the view!

With an interesting architecture the Helix Bridge offers some nice views on the Marina Bay Sands, the Lotus Flower, the floating Stadium and much more. It's the pedestrian connection for the walk around Marina Bay to the Merlion.

An absolute must do walk for anyone who visits Singapore. Day or night has fantastic photo opportunities of Singapore's downtown including Marina Bay Sands.

Walked across the bridge from Marina Bay Sands to the Youth Olympic Park and great photos along the bridge of both sides of the marina.

Where to stay in Singapore

For leading chain hotels, head to the area around Orchard Road, considered the tourist center of Singapore due to its varied selection of rooms, good travel links, and tourist-focused businesses. At the eastern end of the road, you'll find more luxurious and expensive options, with hotels located in impressive colonial-era architecture. North and south of this main artery, backpacker hostels and budget hotels provide affordable rooms with basic facilities.
