Padang, Singapore

3.0
#28 of 64 in Fun & Games in Singapore
The Padang is an open playing field located within the Downtown Core of the Central Area in Singapore. It includes the Padang Cricket Ground. The Padang is surrounded by several important landmarks, which include Saint Andrew's Cathedral, City Hall, the Old Supreme Court Building and the City Hall MRT Station.Due to its prime location and historical significance, it has been used as a venue for a variety of events, including the National Day Parades some years due to the first ever National Day Parade being held there in 1966, and just recently Singapore's Golden Jubilee Year in 2015. Since 1995, it has been planned that the NDP would be held there for every five years, the main venue for that major event is at Marina Bay Floating Stadium

If it is the same Padang as when I visited in the 80's and lived there in the 90's, it will have the old cricket club at the top. OK it is just an open field. However if you are walking down from Raff...  more »

It's just an open field in the middle of the city centre. There's not much things to be seen here unless there were some celebration or other programs held at the field.  more »

Location changed position and saw Marina once walking along before the National Gallery, and take a picture. Very good but not disturb camera line of sight is the stadium. If you have games here with international and professional tourist attractions might, well...

the only open greenfield in City area. have a slow quiet stroll on the side of Esplanade, or watch some friendly games of football or rugby on the field can be quite idyllic and relaxing. if there were some long benches along the side of Padang, that would be perfect

Lovely open field and a historic site. Nice place to snap a couple of photos with many scenic backdrops.

A time past. I was on my way to the Victoria Concert Hall when I took a hurried picture of this scene. As you may already know, this is the Padang, a big field of great historical significance. You may recall that the first ever National Day Parade being was held there in 1966, and in most recent memory, the Singapore's Golden Jubilee Year as well. Since 1995, it has been planned that the NDP would be held there for every five years, the main venue for that major event is at Marina Bay Floating Stadium (formerly at the old National Stadium).

Nice green that sometimes is used for Cricket. It has a beautiful backdrop of Singapore's CBD.

Good place to chill in the middle of the field at night

Where to stay in Singapore

For leading chain hotels, head to the area around Orchard Road, considered the tourist center of Singapore due to its varied selection of rooms, good travel links, and tourist-focused businesses. At the eastern end of the road, you'll find more luxurious and expensive options, with hotels located in impressive colonial-era architecture. North and south of this main artery, backpacker hostels and budget hotels provide affordable rooms with basic facilities.
