National Library, Singapore, Singapore
Categories: Libraries, Traveler Resources
A tangible testament to the country's development, National Library, Singapore was founded as the country's first public library at the suggestion of the country's modern founder, Sir Stamford Raffles. A constant in the nation's history, the library saw the country gain independence in 1965. The library opened branches in the suburbs after that time, giving it a new national presence. The library relocated several times, until it found its home and flagship location in 2005. The building is a modern architectural feat, and spans two city blocks and 16 stories. It provides a wealth of information about the country's history in several different languages, and offers a variety of comfortable seating areas. Excellent facility in central location. Really appreciated the following: 1. free wifi 2. well stocked with newspapers 3. big children's area 4. access to rare/ offprint books (can't takeaway but can refer) 5. Han's coffeeshop just outside 6. big atrium Worth a visit.
A great place to sit and work (if you can find a spot). Very quiet, and has plugs to charge your laptop. Wifi is free but very slow. Great views all around. Collection of books is very good.
Condusive environment for studying/doing research, but can get quite crowded during peak hours. Free wifi+ charging spots provided.
The theatre was a fantastic one! I went there with my YMCA student care to see the Act 3 Love Awake Orchestra! The stage was really good ans the air con was cooling and nice! I can relax there! Best and biggest library in my life i've ever seen! SUPER! 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
Nathaniel Ng Li Wen,
The largest library in Singapore and a great place to study or read a book. Plenty of places to sit down, though power points might be a little scarce. I'd advice bring an adapter if you intend to use the computer. There is wifi here too!
