National Library, Singapore

(420+ reviews on the web)
Library
A tangible testament to the country's development, National Library was founded as the country's first public library at the suggestion of the country's modern founder, Sir Stamford Raffles. A constant in the nation's history, the library saw the country gain independence in 1965. The library opened branches in the suburbs after that time, giving it a new national presence. The library relocated several times, until it found its home and flagship location in 2005. The building is a modern architectural feat, and spans two city blocks and 16 stories. It provides a wealth of information about the country's history in several different languages, and offers a variety of comfortable seating areas. • If you love (partial) views of the city from the top, the National Library has plenty of it. And it is free of charge and air conditioned. Take the lift to the 11th floor and walk into the reference a...  more »

  • So this is the place to go for research gathering and literatures. The amount of materials they have are beyond imaginations. A really well ran place too with bag checks and constant reminders for noisy patrons. They do not deal with noise lightly which provides everyone with a conducive environment for their study. If you are here to revise for an exam or just a place to study, come at opening or you will find yourself without a seat and table in no time.
  • Wow. This place is great! My daughter likes coming here and spend her days reading. Good place to spend the day with kids.
  • The building is a modern jewel of architecture. Large spaces to read, study and stay. It has also a theatre inside, go and take a visit to its several floors
  • It's a very large and beautiful library that the people of Singapore should be very proud of. I was impressed. Wi-Fi needs to be easier to access.
  • This building is so big, I've only been to the 9th floor but it is the best place to study. Everybody is focused and there is no noise, you can hear the flies haha. However, it can be crowded especially on weekends...so if you want to have a spot you'd better come early. But anyway it's my go to place when I need to study! PS: if you manage to sit next to the windows the view is amazing!
