Merlion Park, Singapore

4.2
#5 of 155 in Sightseeing in Singapore
Monument Tourist Spot
Witness one world's most bizarre statues at Merlion Park, famed for its figure of a half lion, half fish shooting water from its mouth in a proud arc. Built in 1964, the 9 m (30 ft) statue now represents one of Singapore's symbols. A smaller statue--the fish-lion's baby--can also be found nearby. The baby statue offers a similar photo opportunity with a fraction of the crowds. After you've taken some photos, turn your gaze around to appreciate sweeping views of the waterfront. Put Merlion Park on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Singapore itinerary planner.

It is popular because many people. Collaboration with photos and hotels in some poses, so taking pictures in various postures and back is standard. I think it's time to relax so much that if the tour is not. Mini there to Sentosa Island in the Park as well as the merlion goes into the sea. Beautiful lit up at night. River Cruises, so from there see the merlion is also nice.

It is a typical scenery of Singapore with Merlion statue medium size. Good to be visited in day and / or night time. The visitors have several things to do, such as: walk along the river side, eat any types of food, take the boat, or just sit beside the river enjoy the scene.

DOV: 26Sept2016 Its a great place to visit when you are in Singapore. Merlion - half lion half man - is the symbol of Singapore and great to watch it spitting continuously :). The nearby places are so attractive and you need to walk through the bridge and enjoy the tall buildings and business centers along with good food options in plenty of restaurant. The major problem I faced was they were not accepting USD and many are cash only!!! Also as its a big tourist spot, its difficult to get a photo with just u and Merlion. NOTE: If you have US VISA and SINGAPORE TRANSIT of 8 HOURS, you can have FREE ENTRY TO SINGAPORE by just showing the visa and boarding pass to immigration officer. I chose this option and friends came to the airport and had a great day there :)!!!

This is where many people take the iconic "Spitting Merlion" picture that represents Singapore. I recommend coming early in the morning like before 7am which is when the Merlion starts spitting water. You can enjoy the quietness and if you hang around till it starts spitting, there won't be any crowds to fight to find the perfect angle.

This nice waterfront park gets a lot of foot traffic because of the famed Merlion statue. It is relatively easy to reach on foot from virtually anywhere in downtown Singapore, owing to the many well-appointed walks paths leading to it. Stop by for pictures and admire the picturesque waterfront, the modern skyline, and the Singapore Marina. Check the local weather before visiting, paying attention to forecasts of intense heat or strong rains. It can also get uncomfortably humid, which was the case when we visited.

Nice view water reflect with light so beautiful and fresh air. We can see a lot of place from Merlion Park like Marina Bay Sands Hotel. There's some cafe around, with options for snacks.

Where to stay in Singapore

For leading chain hotels, head to the area around Orchard Road, considered the tourist center of Singapore due to its varied selection of rooms, good travel links, and tourist-focused businesses. At the eastern end of the road, you'll find more luxurious and expensive options, with hotels located in impressive colonial-era architecture. North and south of this main artery, backpacker hostels and budget hotels provide affordable rooms with basic facilities.
