Maxwell Food Centre, Singapore

#3 of 246 in Shopping in Singapore
Taste genuine Singaporean dishes and street food at Maxwell Food Centre. Under its steel roof, this former market building features hundreds of food stalls mainly offering dim sum, noodles, fish balls, and other Chinese-inspired dishes. Both tourists and locals come to queue for a plate of Tian Tian chicken rice, but make sure to check out the other local favorites, such as China street fritters or fried sweet potato dumplings. Avoid the hours between noon and 2 in the afternoon if you don't want to be caught in the long lines of office workers on a lunch break. • For that, after a week in Singapore visiting many I can say that this, next to Gluttons Bay, are the two best for me. It's clean, with easy access and plenty of food, even if you don't like Asian food you can opt for European food like that of lad & Dad. There are several very interesting sites like the Fuzhou Oyster Cake, which prepares some very good oyster buns. You can eat and drink at very good price and in a good atmosphere, no bad smells as it happens in some other places.

  • Fantastic food choices at a great price point (super cheap)! Must try the tian tian hainanese chicken rice made famous when featured by the late and great Anthony Bourdain (May he rest in peace) They ...  more »

  • These are one of the best stalls to visit while in Singapore. Has amazing foods here indeed. Crowd is a problem though as you might have to wait in queue for sometime to get your order placed and wait for the food to be prepared and passed. Overall satisfied service and food service. Cleanliness are also well maintained. Definitely worth a try and a visit.
  • One of Singapore's iconic Hawker Centres. Loads of local favourites are found here but do take your time checking them out as there are many stalls selling the same popular dishes and be prepared to queue! (Oh, was kinda disappointed with a particular "famous" stall after a long wait ... Guess it was the case of curiosity killed the cat!). Well, If you're tired of the usual Noodles and Rice Staples, felt like something different, do try the Dough stall and the pastries stalls. Have fun!
  • Brought my childhood good friends to try out these hawker centre. This place is really packed with lots of tourists and locals. Prices are reasonable.
  • Still my favourite food court in the entire world. Variety is enormous. Good is well priced. Couldn't stop eating. Energetic vibe. Must visit place. Service is great at vendors. Can't go wrong visiting there.
  • Love the authentic local feel. We came at 800 pm on a Friday, and it felt a little subdued. But most stalls were open. Some vendors, like the famous chicken rice stores, had sold out, so better to come early. Also, even though it's not quite as busting, I recommend sitting on the westernmost seating exposed to the outside where it's a little cooler.
