MacRitchie Reservoir, Singapore

4.6
#3 of 9 in Nature in Singapore
Just a short trip from the city center lies the serenity of MacRitchie Reservoir, part of Singapore’s water system that captures rain water to help supply the island’s growing population. Trails surround the park, which has an upgraded visitor center featuring a café, restrooms, and information station. The best views are from the TreeTop Walk, a 250 m (820 ft) suspension bridge across the rainforest canopy, which can be accessed along the 7 km (4 mi) Venus Loop. Wear hiking shoes and bring water. Were on the weekend of the MacRitchie reservoir, to turn off a bit from the stressful big city. The reservoirs is very nice and even on the weekend, it was not too crowded and we were even often completely alone. We could also see some animals. Nice change when you're staying in Singapore.

The walk around the lake is absolutely amazing. Go there, rent a kayak, walk in the rain forests, rest and relax by the lake, peaceful nature walk. Best time to go - around 4pm so that you are not hit by the hot afternoon sun.

Huge lake and lots of trees. Ocasionally you will be greeted by squirrels. Love the fresh air after rain.

Where to stay in Singapore

For leading chain hotels, head to the area around Orchard Road, considered the tourist center of Singapore due to its varied selection of rooms, good travel links, and tourist-focused businesses. At the eastern end of the road, you'll find more luxurious and expensive options, with hotels located in impressive colonial-era architecture. North and south of this main artery, backpacker hostels and budget hotels provide affordable rooms with basic facilities.
