Kampong Glam, Singapore

(4.2/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Cheery promenades bring an eclectic blend of history and culture together at Kampong Glam. Along the promenades you'll find quirky boutiques, international cuisine, and traditional wares such as rugs, perfumes, and clothing. The neighborhood has roots as a humble fishing village and was once known for its production of paperbark trees. The area's rich history can still be witnessed today, evidenced by the prominence of Malay culture and heritage. In 1822 the area was allocated to the Malay Sultan and Muslim community, including Arab and Bugis traders. • Although it is a now-trendy neighborhood, but otherwise the Arab quarter offers a wonderful. About the Arab st, you coming for example from little India enters and can indulge in the Oriental culture. The magnificent Sultan Mosque is situated at the beginning and the Malayan Heritage Centre next door is beautiful Gale. The narrow streets are characterised by a high number of colourful shops and bars. There's also much street art, I so had not yet seen in this city. • Kampong Glam consists of a neighbourhood of colourfully restored little shophouses and eateries, in the shadow of some skyscrapers. The atmosphere is friendly and hipp.
