Emerald Hill, Singapore

(4.4/5 based on 190+ reviews on the web)
Away from the hustle and bustle of the district’s other shopping streets, Emerald Hill offers a calmer, more relaxed dining and retail experience. Located in this conservation area you'll find several wine bars as well as stalls serving local snacks, traditional finger foods, and restaurants serving international foods such as tapas. More than just a place to eat and shop, the neighborhood also provides a valuable slice of Singaporean history, having formerly belonged to the wealthy Peranakan community. Come here if only to survey the scenic, traditional Chinese baroque architecture of the houses, designed by the prominent architect R.T. Rajoo. Not even friends you sit your AC's picture page and look for places where you can think about this cord in Izmir have style.

  • Absolutely worth visiting. Just beautifully renovated colonial style houses and nice calm athmosphere in the middle of the big city.
  • Have lived in one of the neighboring streets to Emerald Hill in a few weeks, strolled around there and used it as a shortcut to Orchard Road. It is an idyllic and well preserved small street, with terraced houses from the beginning of the 20th century. Some of the bottom is real business activity with shophouses (cafes) on the ground floor and residential in the second, but the vast majority are clean homes but with the characteristic arcaded cloister. If one is in the bottom part of the Orchard Road and have some time to spare or are tired of all the Department stores, the Emerald Hill well worth a visit. It is especially true if you have been in some other areas of shophouses in Singapore. But if the goal is to see a site with preserved shophouses, there are many other sites that offer a lot more. Little India and Chinatown are the famous tourist attractions, but I would also recommend the area around Telok Ayer Street and Amoy Street which is located a little outside of Chinatown.
