  • As I told before we continued from the St.Gerhard Cathedral our walk toward the Vrsacka Kula (Tower or Castle). It took us about one hour to get on top of the hill, the highest point in the whole Vojv...  more »
  • I love this place. It's a bit harder to come here, but it's worth it. The view from the top, on the vineyards, is amazing. I don't know much about its history, bud you just can feel something strong a...  more »
  • a wonderful cultural-historical monument. Almost completely renovated, guarding a power, power. Real viševekovni keeper of the city and surrounding region.

  • Nice place but not much to do there. Nice view but the tower is not that impresive. Still nice place to visit or to go hiking.
  • The Vrsac’s Castle (Vrsacka Kula) is the most famous landmark for the city of Vršac (Vrshasz/Werschetz/Versec/Varset/Virsac). It is believed that the castle was built by Djurdj Smederevac in the XV century due to its several architectural similarities with Monastery Manasija in the city of Smederevo (the other side of River Danube). The fortress was recently renovated and it is now easier to access. More could be done to make this lookout point a bigger tourist attraction and location to showcase turbulent and multi-ethnic history of this area. Even if you are not on the top of the 399m castle, you will have a breathtaking view of where once the shallow ancient sea of Pannonia was. To the South, on slopes of Vrsac’s hill, you will see large vineyards that date back to the Roman Empire period. The culture of making wine was strongly supported under the rule of Maria Theresa (1740-1780) and by the late 19th century these vineyards became the largest in the all Pannonian region. These vineyards are currently for sale, if you are interested. Little further South, before you get to Danube river you will see channel Dunav-Tisa-Dunav. This is the location of former Vojna Krajina (Military zone dividing Austro-Hungarian empire from Ottoman empire extending to Croatia and Bosnia). Many Serbian, Romanian and German families were relocated to Banat Vojna Krajina and western side of this military zone to create a buffer zone and protect Monarchy from barbarian attacks of Turks. Theses ethnically divers "frontiersmen" defended the Monarchy in the roughly 1720-1881 period. In return they received land-grants. Down in the city, to the West, you will see the neo-gothic St. Gerhard Roman-Catholic Church, the St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, and the baroque Bishop’s Palace. Close to center The Catholic and Orthodox Christian churches still ringing bells next to each other, reflecting the ethnical diversity and the history of Vrsac. To the North-West you will see Vrsac’s airport and flight school - the site of the 1972 World Gliding Championship. To the East, you will see the Carpathian Mountains in the direction of Romania. There are several nice hiking trails in the Vrsac Hills area, some of them pass right near the castle.
  • Nice historical place with a great view but there is not much to do there and it is not open to go inside all the time. This place is nice for hiking.
  • Nice historical tower & beautiful view of the city. Excelent take off for paragliders. I recommend visit this place if you are coming to Vršac.
  • Coming from Belgrade, after miles and miles of plain terrain, finally a hill shows up. The view from up there is stunning, and on clear days you can even see all the way to Danube river. If you find yourself in Vrsac, you simply must not miss a walk up the hill. It is accessible by car too in case you`re feeling lazy.
