But little-known archaeological site that worth a visit as it is very rich and very well put in value. Quality guide speaking English very well. It is also possible to eat a meal with dishes from the Roman era with loan period costume!

Viminacium was a great city when the Danube was the limes, the border between the Roman Empire and the barbarians. Discovered during work around a large coal-fired power station excavations are still in progress but already what you see is interressante, particularly some underground tombs with frescos. In the coal mine are pure mammoth rests, a complete skeleton! (one of two in the world) Contrary to what says the recent guide EDT the road leading to the site is all paved and you pay one ticket for both the ruins to see woolly mammoths. (and there's also a discount for pensioners)

This is a remarkably well preserved piece of ancient Roman history, and excavations are still going on! It's a large area that contains reconstructions of a Roman villa, an amphitheatre, and the origi...  more »

  • Important site in Roman history. If you're a buff of that era this is a fantastic feather in your cap.
  • Small but interesting, some of the Great romanian caesar came from this countryside.....
  • Still in relatively early stages of archeological discovery of the Roman town, but interesting visit nonetheless. Kids will enjoy the mammoth fossils that were found by accident and are now displayed in a special dedicated area.
  • Great place. It just shows what can be achieved with an effort of one person. Do not kiss this jewel of Serbia. There is an whole mamuth skeleton to be seen.
  • One of the more interesting places I visited.
