City Hall (Gradska kuca), Subotica

4.7
#1 of 9 in Things to do in Subotica
Considered by many to be the city's most beautiful structure, City Hall (Gradska kuca) is the largest and one of the most lavish buildings in this part of Serbia. As it was the main governmental building, some of the greatest Serbian artists and architects of the time were involved in the four-year construction. It was finally completed in 1912, showcasing exceptionally modern architecture for its day--Hungarian folklore elements and ceramic and wrought-iron floral ornaments adorn most of its interiors. Take photos of the 76 m (249 ft) tall building and pay attention to the vivid stained glass windows. You can also access the 45.5 m (149 ft) high observation balcony, which offers unmatched views of the surrounding town and landscape. • It is the central building of Subotica, the landmark, the most impressive, the most spectacular and impossible to ignore. In fact it is also a pleasant sight, the only regret I have made three attempts (including marriage), for one reason or another never got around to really get, just look. Patience is seen that wasn't meant to be. Remains the great enjoyment of the outdoors.

  • Austro-Hungarian style of construction. Nice colored roof and its soaring Bell Tower. Second largest city in Vojvodina after Novi Sad. Its location is very scenic in a big square full of green, with a large fountain. The city has had several names, especially for the initial strong Hungarian influence, while the current name derives from the Hebrew to indicate on Saturday. Beautiful Council Chamber where stands a piano of great value. Across the Hall, in a beautiful building viennese style, there is the library. Very nice at night when it is illuminated. I climbed right on top of the tower where you can enjoy a magnificent 360 degree view of the city.
