  • The district and Pirot region has many attractions, both in terms of nature and culture. In the Valley of the Jerma comes this together. Take the E80 Pirot-Sofia the Sukovo – Zvonce exit. Then you drive the Valley of the Jerma (Erma) inside. For Sukovo, the Valley wide. Then makes the special location itself clearly. The mountain ranges are cut by the Greben and Vlaška Jerma. In some places the gap is very narrow. As a result, the monastery church at Poganovo centuries was protected against the Turks. As a result, the frescoes of Poganovski Monastery (Manastir Sveti Jovan = Saint John) remained undamaged and they belong to the cultural heritage of Serbia. After the liberation of the Turkish domination was region Dimitrovgrad/Zvonce to 1919 part of Bulgaria. After the first WORLD WAR is the region awarded to Yugoslavia. In the 1930s is a railway line built for the extraction of coal. For the creation of these, are rock-cut. The construction of the railway line and the coal mining made sure that towns like Poganovo and Zvonce connection got at the "civilized world". After the conclusion of the coal mine is the space used for connection to the road network. In 1950 had the villages and more than 1000 inhabitants Zvonce Poganovo both still. Now that ca. 250 and 80. Still, the Valley does not leave. Many former residents and inhabitants of the larger cities have here their summer home. Also the Valley with its historical monuments (in addition to the monastic Church to Poganovo is there still a monastic Church to Sukovo) and natural beauty visited by enthusiasts. At Sukovo is a small lake that is beautiful for fishing, relaxing and walking around it. The Jerma offers many opportunities for fishing (trout) and has multiple spots on the banks where the picnic is good. We do this yearly. In the summer the river wading to cross. In addition to picnics we go regularly to the restaurant opposite Poganovski Manastir. This provides excellent quality at a low price. In addition to this, the beautiful in the green for a small mountainside. Greben and Vlaška mountain ranges are sometimes included to the Stara Planina where just as Suva Planina officially not. The are mountain ridges with multiple peaks (e.g. Crni Vrh 1456 m and Golemi Stol 1239 m). Some peaks are rough and harder accessible. However, there are many possibilities for hiking. Itself I walk like Zvonačka Banja from Zvonce or to the small mountain village Jasenov Del/Surlanica along the small lake Vetrensko Jezero. Also take a walk to the top of Bald Arsenevo opposite Zvonačka Banja is very beautiful as well as descending into the Gorge and walking along the river. A walk of Babusnica Zvonce direction is also beautiful. The hotel Zvonačka Banja is unfortunately destroyed. That, however, has the advantage that the swimming pool is now less but lively. Zvonačka Banja has thermal thermal water at approx. 30 degrees and is located on a mountain slope with a beautiful view. The combination of historical attractions, nature, hiking and relaxation on the banks of a mountain stream make this a place where we return nearly every year.
