The Name of Mary Church, Novi Sad

(4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Right in the heart of the city, the Roman Catholic The Name of Mary Church commands attention with its 72 m (236 ft) steeple, Neo-Gothic ornamentation, and intricate stained-glass windows. Prior to its creation, another cathedral stood on the site, but the town's Catholic population considered it to be incorrectly built. The architect Georg Molnar designed this new structure free of charge, earning him a bust inside. Snap photos of this slender yellow-brick structure, with its multicolored ceramic roof and large gilded cross. Inside, notice the altar made of fine wood from the Austrian Alps and look up to see intricate gothic arches. • This church is unusually tall and thin and the proportions are very pleasing. It has lovely stained glass windows and coloured tiles on the spire. I wasn't there for long but felt otherwise it was unr...  more »
  • Stroll through the old town, you can not miss the Church. It stands on the freedom square opposite the Town Hall. The tower is slim, the whole Church proportioned. If you heard something Gothic metrics, it is was amazed, how good this construction complied with. No wonder: The Church is neogothisch! Such as the Cologne Cathedral, which was finished haiptsächlich in the 19th century, modern materials and technologies available were for the construction of the Church. That does but not detract from the beauty of the building, it must be not always about really old! The construction of the Church is an expression of the boom, Hungary has experienced in 1862 to the Austria - Hungarian compensation. Novi SAS at the time which belonged to Hungary. One turns for viewing best first with his back to the Town Hall. Then they surrounded the Church. One stands on the beautifully designed interior for last. Is not easy to take pictures, you would need a good wide angle lens – who already has? So better buy a postcard or a small illustrated book in the souvenir shops.
