4.9/5 based on 75+ reviews on the web
Nestled in a pristine hilly environment, have maintained spirituality and provided aid to millions of worshipers during wars, occupations, and times of peace. Originally numbering 35, they have suffered numerous lootings and destruction, most recently from the NATO bombing in 1999, when six monasteries were severely damaged. Today you can see 16 of them still standing, dating back to the Middle Ages. The oldest historical records place them in the 16th century, while legends claim they have been there since the 1100s. Tour some of these structures to see their harmonious facades and vibrant Orthodox decoration, and take a break in the peaceful setting of the hills. Wear comfortable shoes, as roads can be bumpy here. Using our online itinerary creator, Novi Sad attractions like Fruska Gora Monasteries can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • These so-called hidden monasteries are each worth a visit. Not only for the religious, they give lots of historic information in the peaceful environment of Fruska Gora.
  • Monasteries on the Fruška Gora lot. All beautiful, well-groomed and everywhere, absolutely everywhere, very like the Russians. Rejoice us treat:) but getting to them is not so simple. Taxi or tour:)
