Get a sense of the great Western, Eastern, and Slavic civilizations at The Belgrade Fortress, a commanding complex overlooking two rivers, the city, forests, and small islands. Dating back to the 2nd century CE, the site has served as a town, a military fortification, and today as one of the favorite spots for leisure and recreation. Other than castles, landscaped gardens, and ancient infrastructure, the fortress also hosts the Belgrade Zoo, several museums, and countless photography opportunities. Numerous agencies offer guided tours that can help you learn all about the site and even visit a portion of its mysterious underground catacombs. After sightseeing, grab a snack from a street stall and relax among the park's fountains and lush greenery. It's an interesting and pretty place, includes the fortress, a park and some touristic shops. It's very nice to walk and spend time in, regardless of whether you're alone or with someone. BEWARE, do N...  more »

A lively but homely rather ugly with very few attractions and also this fortress is frankly disappointing but remains one of the few highlights of this overrated city. The Serbia is pleasant the Serbs very pleasant and hospitable but Belgrade is ugly. Luckily the Lonely planet guides I took them to the library and do not buy otherwise I would have had a terrible remorse. If the help author affirms that to visit this fortress you must have 1 day we probably have different feelings.

In Belgrade we were passing through on their way to Montenegro but we decided to watch the stronghold and the pedestrian area. In the same fortress tank Museum attractions, dinosaur park and you can walk in the beautiful circumstances. From the fortress there is a beautiful view of the city and the mouth of the Sava River into the Danube. The entrance to the fortress is free, while the fortress are paved so there is no problem can be reached.

My friend held his wedding here. The photos are beautiful, but let me tell you walking those cobbles in heels is a killer! And the sun bearing down on us on a hot summer day can be absolutely unbearable. Defining bring a water bottle with you. Otherwise it's a great place to have a picnic and just wander the park.

This place is such a great place to visit when in Belgrade. I was surprised there is no entry fee. maybe that would turn people away but with an good price I'm sure it would pay itself off and give people employment. My wife and I spend several hours here on 7 July 2017. It was a beautiful day, sun shining and a high temperature of 34 degrees C. The history of Serbia and Belgrade is on show here so come here to experience it. There are some kiosks around the site, some people selling art, and other items. Don't just walk by them, pay some attention to them and here what they say and I'm sure you will appreciate why they are selling their goods and it will help them. They want to make a living and what they are selling isn't much for the normal tourist. This place is truly a drawcard for Belgrade and I hope many people will visit and spend some money at the same time. I nearly forgot until I added my photos, the views are great.

This is one of the best laid out fortresses I have seen on 6 continents. It's massive, great field of fire. They should have never lost.

Must see for every visitor, and memory holder for each native. There are so many things to enjoy at the old fortress that it is hard to put them all in one review. It is the symbol of Belgrade and Serbia in general. Built by Celts, destroyed and rebuilt by every army that passed through. What I love the most about it is the view over rivers, Observatory and the Zoo.

History is always fascinating. This fortress is huge, with gardens providing space for a stroll, to walk your dog or even mountain bike. Wall to the top of the tower, and you have a 360 degree view of Belgrade, as well as the two rivers. There are 2 churches as well to see and tours for star gazing at night. Great place to visit.
