The Belgrade Fortress, Belgrade

4.7
Get a sense of the great Western, Eastern, and Slavic civilizations at The Belgrade Fortress, a commanding complex overlooking two rivers, the city, forests, and small islands. Dating back to the 2nd century CE, the site has served as a town, a military fortification, and today as one of the favorite spots for leisure and recreation. Other than castles, landscaped gardens, and ancient infrastructure, the fortress also hosts the Belgrade Zoo, several museums, and countless photography opportunities. Numerous agencies offer guided tours that can help you learn all about the site and even visit a portion of its mysterious underground catacombs. After sightseeing, grab a snack from a street stall and relax among the park's fountains and lush greenery. • It's an interesting and pretty place, includes the fortress, a park and some touristic shops. It's very nice to walk and spend time in, regardless of whether you're alone or with someone. BEWARE, do N...  more »
  • A lively but homely rather ugly with very few attractions and also this fortress is frankly disappointing but remains one of the few highlights of this overrated city. The Serbia is pleasant the Serbs very pleasant and hospitable but Belgrade is ugly. Luckily the Lonely planet guides I took them to the library and do not buy otherwise I would have had a terrible remorse. If the help author affirms that to visit this fortress you must have 1 day we probably have different feelings.

  • In Belgrade we were passing through on their way to Montenegro but we decided to watch the stronghold and the pedestrian area. In the same fortress tank Museum attractions, dinosaur park and you can walk in the beautiful circumstances. From the fortress there is a beautiful view of the city and the mouth of the Sava River into the Danube. The entrance to the fortress is free, while the fortress are paved so there is no problem can be reached.

  • Very interesting place. They did a good job of preserving the history and renovating the site, at the same time managed to combine traditional touristic attraction with unusual entertainment, such as dinosaur park. View at the river is fantastic. Mulled wine that we bought from the street seller kept us warm and happy on a winter day.
  • This is a great place from which to observe the city. Especially at night, I think. The harbor and buildings below are lit up, so views are pretty great. I think it makes for some nice long exposure photography. Bring your tripod!
  • The fortress is a must to see in the capital of Serbia. There are several independent exhibitions at the same time, so you need at least 4 hours to roam around this hedonistic and cultured place. The view is spectacular and picturesque. Good photographs are guaranteed, 100 percent.
  • A must see in Belgrade. Beautiful old fortifications with amazing views of the city. Also it's free! There is no info available at the fortress though so go with a walking tour.
  • Must visit place if you visit Belgrade it is historical place, park with a zoo and great view on two rivers. Excellent to relax and go with kids. Fresh Air, Great View. I also recommend to visit zoo.
