Ružica, Belgrade

4.8
Featured in numerous articles, including in the Atlas Obscura, Ružica features a facade covered in greenery and chandeliers made of weapons. Pressed up against the walls of the Belgrade fortress, the church has a history dating back to the 14th century, after which it was destroyed and rebuilt several times; the present construction is from 1925. During the 1700s, soldiers kept their gunpowder inside, and in the 19th century it served as a military church. Enter the cave-like chamber to see vivid frescoes and the famous chandeliers wrought from cannon ammunition, officers' swords, and pistols. Take time to view the medieval-style yards adorning the fort's base. Using our online itinerary creator, Belgrade attractions like Ružica can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

The chapel within the castle of Belgrade is somewhat hidden in the vicinity of the great restaurants. Go on Saturday, when a wedding party comes after another and enjoy the beautiful Gregorian chants of the priest.

Yuki in next to the Petka church with war destroyed and rebuilt. Composition of the frescoes in the 1930s modern and fresh. Chandeliers made with bullet and bayonet and Sabre is also worth a visit.

  • I really shouldn't be rating this because it's a church but it's beautiful and historic and dedicated to Sv. Petka who has helped many. The church looks historic and I don't know how old it is. It's beautiful and I think is known for many things but I can't remember.
  • In my opinion this is the cutest church in the whole Serbia. The most interesting thing about this church is that inside of it there are two chandeliers made entirely of spent bullet casing, cannon parts and swords. You must visit this small church!
  • Beautiful old church Ruzica
  • Beautiful church that has strong links with the Serbian military history. Looks great in the summer.
  • Very beautiful, must visit...
