Crkva Svetog Marka, Belgrade

4.5
Nestled in a park setting at the heart of the city, the classically styled Crkva Svetog Marka recalls the region's medieval churches. Its two-colored facade was built in 1940 using local and ancient Byzantine techniques. The 1,150 sq m (12,380 sq ft) interior spaces can host up to 2,000 worshipers and 150 singers, and its basement contains a large crypt containing remains of numerous important Serbian personalities. See the lavish marble iconostasis and altar table and observe the mosaic icons that decorate a large portion of the interior. Don't miss the 14th-century remains of Tsar Dušan, under whose rule Serbia flourished, or the elaborate beehive modeled after the church. You can take photos of this massive church from the picturesque park above it. • Very beautiful and stately Church both from outside and inside. There is not a lot of tourists there, quiet and peaceful. Both this year and the fall of 2016 is ongoing renovations but it is nothing that interfered with our visit. It's fast to walk there from Belgrade City and well worth a visit.

  • One of the most monumental religious buildings in Belgrade .. colour of the temple is amazing also the square in front of it. It is located in the center of the city. When I am there I feel as I am at home. Love it.
  • Very interesting church located in a park not far from the city centre. Don't forget to visit at night, when you can see a colourful fountain nearby.
  • Big church, I think it was recently restored. Inside there are many interesting mosaics, but unfortunately the altar is still restored.
  • It is the second largest church in Belgrade. Located near the post office and Tasmajdan Park has a beutiful exterior design. The internal columns and the main large chandelier lamp are really impressive and worth to visit it.
  • Nice church with great arihitecture. Seems to Serbian monestry called Gracanica. It is on good place in Belgrade.
