Belgrade Zoo, Belgrade

3.4
#2 of 31 in Outdoors in Serbia
Known as one of Europe's oldest zoos, Belgrade Zoo houses some 2,000 animals from 270 species, right in the center of the capital city. Its collection of white lions is one of the largest in the world, and reportedly the oldest alligator known to man lives here. Stretching across 7 hectares (17 acres) of hilly landscaped terrain, the zoo features thematic zones, such as Africa, Australia, and birds of prey. Walk among different habitats and encounter wild and domestic animals of all sizes and shapes. Visit the petting zoo to play with the youngest residents, or buy a bag of peanuts to feed the zoo's elephants. Children can also ride ponies at the site. • A small but very interesting Zoo. The kids were thrilled! In summer it is better to come or to open or in the evening. Very hot day. To visit just two hours.

  • The Zoo immediately seems small, but in fact many diverse animals and all enclosures. It is, as it were, in the Hill, so aviaries as rung throughout the territory. Children 8 and 3 years very much.

  • That's the name of our Zoo. Green zone in the middle of the center of the town, on Kalemegdan. Many animal species, treated perfectly, I have no complaints. Still, I hope there will be no Zoos in the ...  more »

  • A little bitter sweet this place. Yes, there's lots of animals and you can be very up close to some which feel like a privilege. But at the same time the cages they are kept in are extremely small for some of the animals. Very nice variety of animals. The layout keeps you finding some animals by accident. There's not a proper map to see where you are or where some animals are. Just pay attention to the signs around.
  • Great place to relax and see animals. A huge place with different animals to see. A nice family environment too
  • Unfortunately I have to give a low mark for this zoo. This is simply not the place for keeping any human being. The space is so tight and small. I feel sad for all the animals who doesn't have proper space to even stretch their legs. Not to mention that they doesn't look good at all (I'm not the expert, but to me they look either very old or sick). City center shouldn't be the place for the Zoo!
  • Nice place to see various animals and be closer to nature. But sadly, some animals, like bears and tigers don't have enough space and I feel conditions for them could be much better.
  • Most of the animals have reasonable space. But, the monkey's prison cells almost made me cry. They looked so depressed. I had an urge to open the cells and set them free.
