Belgrade Zoo, Belgrade

3.4
#2 of 32 in Outdoors in Serbia
Known as one of Europe's oldest zoos, Belgrade Zoo houses some 2,000 animals from 270 species, right in the center of the capital city. Its collection of white lions is one of the largest in the world, and reportedly the oldest alligator known to man lives here. Stretching across 7 hectares (17 acres) of hilly landscaped terrain, the zoo features thematic zones, such as Africa, Australia, and birds of prey. Walk among different habitats and encounter wild and domestic animals of all sizes and shapes. Visit the petting zoo to play with the youngest residents, or buy a bag of peanuts to feed the zoo's elephants. Children can also ride ponies at the site. • There are so many different and interesting rare animals in the zoo. But their behaviours and physchology made us upset. Staying in a cage for a life time... They behave in a repeated, same mood.  more »
  • A dissapointing experience! I expected a well-kept zoo with plenty of space for the animals to wander around. Instead , we found smelly , confined cages with miserable animals , restricted in unhealth...  more »

  • Great place, lots of animal species but conditions for animals are quite low and area where it's located is small, animals should be in an area which is much wider. But tickets are not expensive and all in all not bad. There is ice-cream, food and coffee shop near by.
  • Nice zoo in the middle of the city. They don't have many animals and from my point of view they are not very well treated but it looks like they ate doing their best. It is a nice place to visit if you happen to be in Belgrade.
  • Very unique zoo where you can get up close and personal with the animals. They have all the usual suspects here, but then add white tigers, white lions, and a pair of cheetahs that on occasion seemed to not be in their enclosure. For timing, I would budget 60-90 minutes to take a good lap.
  • Nice surroundings, zoo is part of medieval fortress, for really nice walk. Maybe signs could be better organized and personally would love more natural surrounding for animals
  • Very nice place to spend around 2 hours. I found it a little confusing because the animals are not located in a nice line that you can follow. I strongly recommend that you take a photo of the zoo map before you start the tour. Than you may have a look at it when you lost track. There are also some animals that you can pet in the baby animals section. The zoo is located right next to the castle so two attractions are very close to each other. Entrence is 500 RSD.
