Bayraklee mosque (Bajrakli dzamija), Belgrade

3.8
The Bajrakli Mosque is a mosque in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is located in Gospodar Jevremova Street in the neighbourhood of Dorćol. It was built around 1575, and is the only mosque in the city out of the 273 that had existed during the time of the Ottoman Empire's rule of Serbia.During the occupation of Serbia by the Austrians (between 1717 and 1739), it was converted into a Roman Catholic church; but after the Ottomans retook Belgrade, it was returned to its original function. It was damaged after being set on fire on 18 March 2004, during that year's unrest in Kosovo, in violent protest to the burning of Serbian churches in Kosovo, but it was later repaired.

  • It is interesting to see, the only surviving mosque in Belgrade. Once there were more than 200 but at the turn of history-the rest of them have been torn down or converted into churches. Despite the fact that the mosque is a functioning Temple, I was able to talk about his history with very nice people. I recommend to all interested in history of Turkish domination in the Balkans.

  • All religions and denominations for centuries Yugoslavia wars killed millions of people lived in each other as a result of the massacre. Still, a region inhabited by enemies of the neighboring countries in the Balkans. Oh you just have preferred to a mosque during the Ottoman ah. Has been a disgrace to all religious artifacts. Christian neighborhood selling halal meat butcher like open. What would have happened if you had done a little bit of artistic artifacts. French monument still standing in the makeshift fortress. Burned, and spray painted black but I still have a visitor. The presence of Turks outside the Bajrakli Mosque doesn't know anybody. I need some more matches in Friday prayers security protection in the Garden only 5 people have. You know, where are the Serbian Bosniak. In the courtyard of the mosque, Establishing a big ugly apartment Course + Housing building has been thoroughly destroyed the historic image. I am very, very sorry.
