Guaita, City of San Marino
(4.7/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
The vision of Guaita sitting high above the surrounding city represents one of the most recognizable images the country. Its tower, built in the 11th century and previously used as a prison, is one of three that can be seen on the national flag and the nation's coat of arms. Climb to the top for panoramic views of the region. The surrounding area is quite developed, offering restaurants and shops. Use our City of San Marino itinerary planner to add Guaita and other attractions to your City of San Marino vacation plans.

  • To get to the top of the tower you go up a ladder and then a few metal 'rungs' and it is a bit of a squeeze (and I am relatively slim). But the views are worth it.
  • It is the castle of San Marino's, awesome to see how the rest of San marino, charming and full of culture.

  • Inside is nothing to that. Nice but could be better around. It's all the Republic that surprises with this atmosphere of extraterritoriality. And then guns everywhere. ...

  • San Marino , one of the oldest Republic nations and 5th smallest country in the world is a nice place for a weekend getaway. A train journey to Rimini from Ancona followed by a short bus journey to this hilly country takes 3 hours. The historical monuments are picturesque including the heritage sites. A good place to spend 1-2 days.
  • Beautiful views to sunset and San Marino city, great atmosphere, good shopping. Reaching the castle itself could be problematic with private car: sometimes police blocks roads for non-residents. Highly recommended leave car on parking and use cable-railway. Alternatively you can walk up, there are public lifts along the way. But it is rather challenging.
  • Beautiful view, and history of the place is truly remarkable, feels like you've travelled through time
  • Buy a ticket for both towers get a discount, 227 steps approx each tower
  • This is a very nice historical place with a stunning view.
