Basilica del Santo Marino, City of San Marino

4.1
#4 of 8 in Historic Sites in San Marino
Explore the Neoclassical architecture of Basilica del Santo Marino, the main church within the city. Although this structure was built during the 1800s, the first church that occupied this spot was constructed during the 4th century. Enter the basilica to see the three large naves, green Neoclassical interior, numerous paintings, statues, and altars. Head back outside to see the Chiesa di San Pietro next to the front steps. This small building was built in 600 and reputedly houses the beds of San Marino and San Leo. Inside, look for a statue dedicated to St. Peter and a monument to Pope John XXII. • This Basilica is located within walking distance from other major attractions of the city. I consider this Basilica as the mid run from the entrance of the city to the 2nd Tower.  more »
  • Today the new basilica was elevated by the Holy pontiffs who have visited the role of minor Basilica, stands on the ancient basilica, is completely renovated and set in the altar there is the monument tomb of the Saint, really exciting to do a visit.

  • I went to 8/2017. Is the church went a little uphill from Central liberty square in San Marino. Says St. Peter's Church, Church of St. Marino on the map of Japan was at the tourist office. Because it was early, less tourists, had tucked away inside. It was a building covering the façade the cylinder, cylinder is located in a little different from other churches.

  • Beautiful basilica. Must visit as it's much better inside than you'd think from outside.
  • The pillared facade is very photogenic although it is quite plain inside
  • I spent 2 full days exploring San Marino time ago. This ancient church is historic and wonderful. Everybody who visits San Marino should make a stop to explore with calm this beautiful church.
  • Impressive Church.
  • I saw it just from the outside, but looks nice. I really love the historic buildings. Hope I will ever saw it from the inside.
