Basilica del Santo Marino, City of San Marino

4.1
#4 of 8 in Historic Sites in San Marino
Explore the Neoclassical architecture of Basilica del Santo Marino, the main church within the city. Although this structure was built during the 1800s, the first church that occupied this spot was constructed during the 4th century. Enter the basilica to see the three large naves, green Neoclassical interior, numerous paintings, statues, and altars. Head back outside to see the Chiesa di San Pietro next to the front steps. This small building was built in 600 and reputedly houses the beds of San Marino and San Leo. Inside, look for a statue dedicated to St. Peter and a monument to Pope John XXII. • Outside of architecture itself, very nice place with stored the remains of the founder of the free State of stonemason, a good place to relax in San Marinusa heats for a silent prayer, away from all the crowds

  • The basilica is dedicated to the founder of the 19th century because the ancient parish church that was in the area was in poor condition. The Church itself is not architecturally outstanding but a visit is a must because it keeps the relics of San Marino.

  • A church that do not appear. Inside is magnificent, out looks like a Greek temple. To visit when staying in San Marino

  • It is a really quiet suburb. Everyone almost knows everyone and the schools are really great, especially the elementary school. There are lots of stores for every occasion, from groceries to tech stuff. There is an absurdly amount of Starbucks in the area, so that could be a plus or negative. There are a lot of good restaurants and bars in the area that are very close in distance. I like that there is a variety of cultures of foods available including Indian, Thai, Asian, American, and even French. I also like that there are unique restaurants and cafes that are not chain restaurants. I also like that there are plenty of options regarding vegetarian and vegan foods as well.
  • Not a very old church when it comes to other churches and houses of worship that were much older and have an elegant feeling of decoration completed with the building of this church
  • Beautiful basilica. Must visit as it's much better inside than you'd think from outside.
  • The pillared facade is very photogenic although it is quite plain inside
  • Amazing arhitecture
