Saleaula Lava Fields, Savai'i

Categories: Outdoor Activities
Inspirock Rating:
3.8/5 based on 25+ reviews on the web
Created during the devastating eruption of Mount Matavanu in 1905, Saleaula Lava Fields are the remains of five villages buried under a wide lava flow. Dotted throughout the barren fields are half-submerged remains of churches and houses. Look for the Virgin's Grave, the resting place of a nun who was encircled by the lava flow, where brightly colored flowers grow today. Follow the lava flow to the ocean and explore rock pools teeming with fish. To visit Saleaula Lava Fields on your trip to Savai'i, use our Savai'i trip itinerary builder.
