To Sua Ocean Trench, Lotofaga

4.7
Marvel at the splendor of To Sua Ocean Trench, a massive swimming hole filled with blue water and surrounded by lush vegetation. The swimming hole is set deep in the ground, so a ladder is required to enter and exit. The water fills the hole via an ancient lava tube connected to the ocean, which creates a current. Weak swimmers can take hold of a rope across the center of the hole. Bring something to cover up with when you're not swimming, as conservative dress is requested out of the water. A few picnic tables are available, so consider packing some refreshments. • Certainly a place to visit when in Samoa. You will see many photos of this place, some real some photoshopped but you will be amazed at how beautiful this place is. We visited as part of our tour & we...  more »
  • A great experience! The ladder is a bit tricky, but I climbed down and up with our 22-month-old daughter on my arm twice. Our 7-year-old twins (boys) have done it on their own. Swimming in this great environment is fantastic. The whole complex is beautifully designed and worth every penny of the entrance fee. We had a very nice afternoon.

  • Soothing place to go for views and a nice swim. The ladder down does require a level of fitness, nothing extreme. The photos from others are not deceiving, it really is clean and blue. Note: ‘Revealing’ swimwear can only be visible inside the trench. There are ropes to help you move around in the trench as there is some current. The rope going North (into the cave) has a nice view when you look up. While at the trench, head South of the trench to see the ocean ‘mouth’. Food and water is also available.
  • This place is amazing. It is set in some beautiful gardens at the south east end of Upolu. A lava flow has left a couple of big holes in the land and the sea has got into the one nearest the coast, creating a big pool at the bottom of a hole, with big cliffs all around it. Access to the pool is by a steep path and then a long wooden ladder, it's not for the faint-hearted. The pool itself was at least 1.5m deep in most places, you need to be a capable swimmer as there are no real edges or beaches and the tide flows in and out.
  • Beautiful scenery. The ladder is long and quite steep into the water. Best time to go is early In the morning. Must pay small fee to enter premise.
  • This is the #1 thing to do in Samoa. If you go to Samoa and don't visit the ocean trench, you've failed. It is a wonder, a beauty and should not be missed.
  • OMG this is crazy good!! Beautiful and pretty much looks like something out of avaitar Easy to get to , most tour guides have it as one of the stop spots Be prepared to climb down the ladder Volcanic pits that lead to the ocean
