To Sua Ocean Trench, Lotofaga

4.8
Marvel at the splendor of To Sua Ocean Trench, a massive swimming hole filled with blue water and surrounded by lush vegetation. The swimming hole is set deep in the ground, so a ladder is required to enter and exit. The water fills the hole via an ancient lava tube connected to the ocean, which creates a current. Weak swimmers can take hold of a rope across the center of the hole. Bring something to cover up with when you're not swimming, as conservative dress is requested out of the water. A few picnic tables are available, so consider packing some refreshments. • The trench, while a popular tourist spot, is definitely worth including in your trip. The well kept gardens around the trench are a wonderful picnic spot too.  more »

  • Amazingly beautiful place. My son and I were lucky enough to be here by ourselves. Awe inspiring.
  • A beautiful tidal pool which is so exciting to go into. Surrounded by amazing gardens. A must see on a visit to Upolu.
  • The trench itself is spectacular and very special - def. a "must see"! However, also the garden and its views upon the wild coast are just breathtaking! Beautiful
  • Amazing natural wonder! The Trench is spectacular, but so are the ocean views! A must see for anyone visiting Samoa.
  • Always have to take people new to Samoa here. Probably the most picturesque spot on the south coast. The trench itself can have a strong current so be wary of the push and pull & know your limits. Not the place for children as the ladder down is quite long (it's sturdy and not slippery at all) The water is a lovely turquoise and on a quiet day you feel as if you're in your own little world in there. The gardens are always well maintained & so beautiful. The fales on top are perfect for picnicking with a cool ocean breeze. There's a tiny blowhole on the lava fields & at low tide plenty of fish to see in the rock pools. The lava tube is a good spot to take pictures. 20 tala is worth the price for the experience. Their toilets are a bit dark but clean and has toilet paper.
