To Sua Ocean Trench, Lotofaga

4.7
Marvel at the splendor of To Sua Ocean Trench, a massive swimming hole filled with blue water and surrounded by lush vegetation. The swimming hole is set deep in the ground, so a ladder is required to enter and exit. The water fills the hole via an ancient lava tube connected to the ocean, which creates a current. Weak swimmers can take hold of a rope across the center of the hole. Bring something to cover up with when you're not swimming, as conservative dress is requested out of the water. A few picnic tables are available, so consider packing some refreshments. • To Sua Ocean Trench is an absolute must-do when you are in Samoa! The ladder had only just been replaced, and the platform was yet to be finished. It was a slow and careful climb down, but well worth....  more »

  • Beautiful upkeep of the property. It’s $20 per person and it’s well worth your money and possibly 1GB of pictures in your phone. Loved it here!
  • Scarey ladder (wear reef shoes) into the hole makes this a rather special experience. The view from the top is surpassed by that at the bottom. An amazing experience, even in the rain. Do be aware that the current can be quite strong which is why there are ropes across the trench.
  • Its a really pretty spot to swim in. The view of the ocean, the quietness, and the sweet trench is a cool place to swim. The ladder to go down into the trench is a little sketchy and there are some really dangerous spots within the trench itself, but if you are well balanced and coordinated, you should have no problem. They could fix the way the ladder and the platform at the bottom to be safer/funner like multiple platforms to jump off of.
  • What an amazing experience! Awesome spot. Its a really pretty spot to swim in. Great experience, Everything about this place is awesome.
  • A must visit place. Entrance fee is 20T for adult and 10T for children. Bring: Swimwear, Towel, Sunscreen, Water, Gopro, Floaties (if you are not good swimmer), baby back carrier (if you want to take young child down), There is no locker so do not bring valuables. Very basic outdoor shower with cold water. There is separate male and female change rooms and toilets. The water is about 2 To 3 metre depending on the tides and there are crabs and small fishes. Unless you are a good swimmer, avoid swimming to the Ocean as the current may be rough. There is no life guard on duty and sadly people went missing in this place. So exercise with caution. The ladder can be slipper especially when raining. Recommend to visit early before 11am as afternoon tends to be busy. If you want postcard photos or perfect selfie, visit very early in the morning. It is possible to take the bus here but note buses don't run on Sunday and there is about a 1km walk from. The main road. Any taxi can get you here for no more. Than 250T return.
