Historic Site Tourist Spot
Pay respect to the lives lost in the conflicts of the late 20th and early 21st century at Yekaterinburg War Memorial. This touching monument was initially erected in memory of the casualties of the Afghan War, and was later expanded to include the victims of the war in Chechnya. Curved black marble pillars that bear the years of conflicts and the names of the fallen surrounded the statue of a soldier with his head bowed. In front of the memorial you'll often see flowers left by people to honor those who are gone but not forgotten. Work out when and for how long to visit Yekaterinburg War Memorial and other Yekaterinburg attractions using our handy Yekaterinburg vacation trip planner.

  • Have seen many war memorials around the world but this one is quite moving as it remembers recent history. Worth a visit if just to think for a while.  more »
  • I was surprised to learn that this memorial was built by the mothers of the war dead in the Afghanistan and Chechnya wars. It was their own fundraising that paid for the memorial and not a government ...  more »
