Spassky (St Saviour) Monastery, Yaroslavl

4.3
Visit Spassky (St Saviour) Monastery, home to the oldest building in the city--the monastery cathedral. Originally built in the 12th century, the monastery also served as a citadel. Look at the remains of a thick 16th-century fortification wall, mounted with watchtowers. Underground passageways once lead to the monastery dungeons and treasury within the walls. The monastery is part of a larger preserve, so you'll also have the chance to explore the museum collection, including the 12th-century manuscript, "The Tale of Igor's Campaign." • Actually on the territory of the monastery is a complex of various museums-history, nature, icons, a treasure trove of the most interesting Museum of ancient books. It took us half a day to every visit. At functioned as a fair farm products. The Cathedral was closed for the winter.

  • The convent now hosts the Yaroslavl State historical-architectural and art museum-reserve, about which there is a separate branch of the reviews. It is clear that the Monastery founded in the 12nd century and located in the city centre, played a large role in the life of the latter. The monastery is often referred to as the Kremlin, we did it, too, because it looks like the Kremlin and was in antiquity the fortified part of the city, and Yaroslavsky Kremlin disassembled at the end of the 18th century, had wooden walls. Therefore the monastery withstood the Polish siege in troubled times, and from its walls of Minin and Pozharsky's militia was sent to liberate Moscow. Hence, from the monastery, Mikhail Romanov sent its first ratification on acceptance of the throne. As the architectural complex of the monastery we are not inspired. The main reason-the Church of Yaroslavl monastery Fedor, David and Constantine, sandwiched in the middle of the year 1831 buildings 16 and 17 centuries instead of 17-century Church, with its construction supposedly dismantled Gallery Transfiguration Cathedral. It looks like what the Church raspihala the Cathedral and Bell Tower and got on is not your place. The building is different even in color, yellow among the white-stone buildings. The architecture too is very different, its porch with white columns and a triangular pediment, as well as the only round dome on a low drum does not fit in with the surrounding architecture. For us this building was an eyesore of an ancient monastery. Found no information who decided to build here is a "miracle". Embodied the solution architect p. j. Pankov. A belfry is a very beautiful and majestic. In the most ancient of the extant buildings of the complex and the city, Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral, built in the early 16 century, winter access is closed. On the inner surface of the exit at the chapel of our Lady of Kazan frescoes.
