Spassky (St Saviour) Monastery, Yaroslavl

(4.3/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Visit Spassky (St Saviour) Monastery, home to the oldest building in the city--the monastery cathedral. Originally built in the 12th century, the monastery also served as a citadel. Look at the remains of a thick 16th-century fortification wall, mounted with watchtowers. Underground passageways once lead to the monastery dungeons and treasury within the walls. The monastery is part of a larger preserve, so you'll also have the chance to explore the museum collection, including the 12th-century manuscript, "The Tale of Igor's Campaign." Use our Yaroslavl holiday planner to add Spassky (St Saviour) Monastery and other attractions to your Yaroslavl vacation plans.

  • Love walking in this Monastery-Yaroslavl Kremlin, the only thing that I don't understand for many years, so it's a paid entry into the territory. Okay to insert, etc. but take a stroll under the open sky on a chargeable basis. but unfortunately it's our country.

  • Compact-located buildings, feels like as the Kremlin. Lacking access to the Ancient frescos and the possibility to climb the Bell Tower. As for the rest, it is interesting to explore the territory, even without going to museums. During Wide Pancake Day, watched plenty of entertainment for all ages.

  • In Yaroslavl monastery is often called by the Kremlin for brevity, but from a historical perspective, this is not the case, the similarity with the Kremlin complex attaches high wall and towers. Entrance-30 rubles, museums and exhibitions are paid separately, prices very reasonable. Inside the interesting buildings from various periods and architectural styles, souvenir shops, you can grab a bite to eat. It hosts various cultural events, such as Carnival, Jablokoslavl', etc.
