3.6/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Mounted by five gilded domes, Cathedral of the Assumption stands nearby where Yaroslav the Wise is said to have founded the city. The newest temple was built in 2010 to replace the 16th-century cathedral that was demolished by Communists in 1937. See the cathedral's original bells on display outside. Inside, admire the iconostasis and antique icons, which were donated by wealthy locals. Custom requires women to cover their heads when entering the church. Nearby attractions include an eternal flame and a monument to Russian soldiers who served during World War II.
