  • We visited Old Sarepta with a guide, as it's almost impossible to get to without someone with local knowledge. The village is hidden behind some typical Soviet apartment blocks, which makes it even mo...  more »
  • If you have your own car this is about 40min from Volgograd center, though still within the city limits. It's one of the few sights in town that has nothing to do with the war and in fact predates it....  more »
  • In fact, initially quite featureless, when one has prepared himself not on this visit to the old German settlement, approximately 1 hour's drive south of the city centre. If you know the background, the whole thing is quickly very fascinating: here numerous Germans, including missionaries of Herrenhuter Bantog community settled in the 18th century, invited by the Empress. But the settlement was not very successful, the mission. Agriculture was improved, introduced viticulture, today the place of "Capital of mustard" - is called a remnant of the time. The inhabitants were deported then 1941 Stalin as "uncertain votes" after any, with only a few hours notice. Some came back after 1991, but most traveled on to Germany. Soviet Republic of the Volga Germans are here so the fragments. To look at: A small museum. the still-active Church, the dt.sprachige library (gift from North Rhine-Westphalia) and many other houses of the time. Those who are interested in German history, is right here.

  • Liked it. Interesting. Learned that extremely important 'yla Sarepta colony on the Volga. Awesome work done by Museum staff since 1989 year. A very large amount of data collected and submitted. Is constantly expanding. Boldly plan jelyj day at the exposition, walks and lunch at the cafe with German cuisine. Recover a lot. But the important thing is that is not broke. Here you can see the oldest building in Volgograd. And they operate. The whole history of the colony is very impressed. Recommend

  • A small area in which the buildings were built in the 18th century. From the place exudes history. Unfortunately, due to the small funding, not all of them are open. But in any case, an interesting Museum which allows you to learn about how Germans lived in Russia before the revolution.

  • A piece of Germany in Volgograd, founded on the initiative of Catherine II, preserved 18th century houses, some still under restoration. The old Sarepta survived and riot Pugacheva, and Bob. On the territory of the Museum there is a functioning church with wonderful body inside. You can visit with a guided tour of the building old libraries, pharmacies, the trading house. Also go to the "Glich' Club", where you can enjoy amazing watermelon coffee.
