Russian Island, Vladivostok
(4.4/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Hop on a bike and cycle around Russian Island, just across the Eastern Bosphorus from Vladivostok. A bridge built in 2012 to connect the island with the mainland now allows for easier access, but the island remains relatively quiet. Locals suggest renting a bike from the Far East Federal University. Ride to the uncrowded beach at Philippovsky Bay and take in the view of the city from across the water. • The island is located within walking distance from Vladivostok and connected with the Mainland with the beautiful cable-stayed bridge, which in itself constitutes an attraction and is the largest of its kind in the world. The island is green and despite its small size has many interesting places. The Federal University of the far East has new facilities on the island. Can anyone enter the premises and wander. Spotless with buildings reminiscent of five-star hotels, artificial pond, waterfalls and a spectacular beach with views of the bridge. You can rent a bike and with the time and doing the rounds of the University. The large Aquarium was almost ready, but was not accessible yet, I hope the next time I visit. I liked both, so we visited the Russky Island twice during my stay in Vladivostok.
