Specialty Museum
Immerse yourself in the everyday life of medieval Russia at Vitoslavitsy Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture, which features more than 20 original wooden structures dating from the 16th to the 19th century. Churches, chapels, and residential houses were collected from around the Novgorod region and then moved to this site in the 1960s. An authentically dressed guide will lead you down the village streets, along wrought-iron torch stands, peasant houses, vegetable gardens, windmills, and a bathhouse. Enter one of the houses, and try to imagine what it was like for several generations of the same family to share a single room--some sleeping above the stove and others in bench-beds. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Vitoslavitsy Museum of Folk Wooden Architecture by using our Veliky Novgorod family vacation planner.

  • Very pretty little down with an impressive kremlin. St Sophia's Cathedral is beautiful inside and the town square and hall are very impressive! The surrounding red walls of the kremlin have been impressively reconstructed following the Nazi occupation and give a very authentic feel to the city, quite different to what you'd experience in St Petersburg. If visiting for a day it's definitely worth seeing the old wooden town which has original structures from all over Russia built up as an interactive museum.
  • It's a place where you can look at unique examples of old Russian wooden architecture. Definitely a must!
  • Wonderful tourist spot
  • The open-air Museum of architecture. In winter, unfortunately, almost all the houses are closed to the public. Guide work in homes that tell about the peculiarities of the House. Just nice to walk in fine weather and enjoy the views. Running fairground. There isn't much parking, WC. Next to the restaurant. The place is very popular. Closer to dinner all parking congestion. Often bring tourists to tour buses.

  • Vintage log cabins-you come and feel in those times ...) a pleasant stroll, ride down hill, pass a rope maze, ride on a wooden swing, and in the winter and a carousel of wooden sledge, admire the pond. Where there are tea, honey beer, kvass, etc, very nice salespeople. A taxi from Novgorod worth 150 rubles, and input about the same. Near Yurievsky monastery.
