Cathedral of the Virgin of the Sign (Znamensky), Veliky Novgorod

(4.9/5 based on 50 reviews on the web)
Beloved by visitors for its pure form, Cathedral of the Virgin of the Sign (Znamensky) was originally built in the 17th century to house the icon it was named after, "Virgin of the Sign." Although this painting was moved to another church in the early 1990s, visitors continue to flock here to appreciate the building's architecture and frescoes covering the interior walls. Pay special attention to a foreboding painting called "The Last Judgment," which covers the entire western wall. If the opportunity arises, do not miss a chance to attend a music concert here--a memorable experience thanks to the building's nearly perfect acoustics. • Very nice, great cathedral 17 century, the exterior tiles and murals have been preserved, very interesting wooden gates decoration and frescoes. Inside the Cathedral did not go, but, as one employee of the Museum, "there go, and just like in a fairy tale!"))). (Because of the vivid frescoes of 17 century. And we podrevnee love) input-80 b.

  • The Cathedral is located on quiet street. Status unfortunately leaves something to be desired. Restoration is needed. The inside is not. Very beautiful tented belfry!

  • The Cathedral is located in the historic condition. Fully conveys the spirit of the Russian people, talent and love for the motherland. Unfortunately, some fragments of frescoes have not been preserved, but in general the picture is impressive in its grandeur.
