Explore the architectural heritage of Siberia at Taltsy Museum, an open-air display of historic wooden buildings. Stop by the outdoor park and wander among the timbered homes, log churches, and other hardy structures that were built to survive in the region's harsh climate. You'll find that many of the featured buildings date from between the 15th and 17th centuries, when the Russian empire began to expand eastward across Siberia. You can glimpse what life was like for the average person as you view the interior of each structure, including schoolhouses and barns filled with antique household items and artifacts. Stop by the museum gift shop afterward to pick up a souvenir from the region and nearby Lake Baikal. Be sure not to miss the display showing replicas of yurts and tents from the native Buryat people. Cool place to spend a few hours. They even got specialty coffee here! That was a pleasant surprise for me, even Listvyanka has no coffee :)

Very nice place, but be sure to take a guide! All the houses are well preserved and some even have life-like mannequins inside which really helps to paint a picture of how these people lived. As an added bonus, there's brilliant views of the magnificent Angara river from some spots. Definitely a place to visit if you're in Irkutsk.
