At The Convent of the Intercession (Pokrovsky Monastery), time seems to stand still. Established in the 14th century, the monastery was the place where the influential men of Moscow would banish their unwanted wives and daughters. Today nuns inhabit the convent (and they're there of their own free will), but everyday life in the monastery remains as it was back in the early days. Soak in the atmosphere, walk the maintained grounds, and glimpse examples of Russian religious art and architecture. These include convent houses and several churches, the largest of which is the 16th-century Cathedral of the Intercession. When visiting the convent, be mindful of its purpose as place of prayer and seclusion. A visit to The Convent of the Intercession (Pokrovsky Monastery) represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Suzdal family vacation planner to plot your vacation.

  • The monastery was at the vigil and received communion at the Divine Liturgy. Really liked the priests, nuns and parishioners! Priests are strict, but fair, with confession returned with tears. Struck that the Psalms at the vigil read girls, apparently trained in Sunday school. The main temple of the monastery-Pokrovsky Cathedral, small but can hold up to all comers. The territory of the monastery, well-groomed, there is a refectory for the pilgrims. In the Church the relics of PDP. Sofia Of Suzdal.

  • The convent and the church isolated form a nice little set in which the walk is really pleasant. The Church of the Intercession of the Virgin is located at the end of a long trail of one kilometer and a half practicable walk only.

  • Truly Pokrovsky female monastery is similar to White Swan! The white walls of the convent and the Cathedral are visible from afar. On the territory of all organized, neat paths. Peace and grace.
