Church of George Victorious, Staraya Russa

(5/5 based on 25+ reviews on the web)
Pay reverence to Saint George, a 3rd-century Roman soldier and Christian martyr at Church of George Victorious. This 15th-century temple was first erected in 1410 CE and features a stone-domed style with four internal porches that are notable against the otherwise-humble stark-white walls with small gold accents. The walls have been restored, with evidence of restoration dating from the 18th century through to the 20th century. A garden surrounds the church, filled with colorful blooms in season. The church still holds regular services, so be prepared to join parishioners eager to pay their respects to the late military saint. • This temple during 600 years closed only twice and in a very short time. Even in the years of the World War II shrine was opened. In the Temple of two unique icons: the biggest throughout Christianity, old Russian icon Mother of God and the smallest Tsaregradsky (located to the right of the Staraya Russa). The two wonder-working icons. To Constantinople to seek help in the treatment of babies.
