Yusupov Palace, St. Petersburg

4.5
Formerly the official residence of an immensely wealthy family of art collectors and philanthropists, the stately Yusupov Palace remains best known for its role in the murder of Rasputin, the infamous "Mad Monk of Russia." Prince Felix Yusupov, once the richest man in the country, poisoned and shot Rasputin in the palace basement, which you can visit as part of a guided tour. The sumptuous palace interiors feature a blend of different styles, integrating period furniture and lavish tapestries with golden chandeliers and elaborate wall paintings. After you explore the basement crime scene, go up to the second floor, which features an elegant ballroom and an ornate private theater. There will be a lot of people visiting and therefore you should regularly by sliding and not left standing on the places. Surely worth a visit with beautiful interiors and a added value is, of course, would have been the place where Rasputin was murdered. Always interesting to visit to do a guided tour

The museum where you will feel the atmosphere of tzar's Russia. Very well organised for tourists. In every room there is guard lady though, which for some people could be intimidating.

EXCELLENT FOR AUTHENTIC VIEWS OF LIFE IN THE EARLY PART OF THE 20TH CENTURY AND BEFORE. WELL ORGANISED WITH TIGHT SECURITY

Although in heavy renovations, it is very interesting to see how rich people lived there 200 years ago. The audio guide here is excellent and the internal path of walking is well designed.

A fairytale experience. From the dark days (Rasputin assassination) to the opulence of the wealthy Russian aristocrats! Don't miss the private theater! Did you know the top floor was for the people who worked there (talking about humanity even in those days).

One of the most beautiful private residence and palace in the world. Very impressive piece of history.
