Formerly the official residence of an immensely wealthy family of art collectors and philanthropists, the stately Yusupov Palace remains best known for its role in the murder of Rasputin, the infamous "Mad Monk of Russia." Prince Felix Yusupov, once the richest man in the country, poisoned and shot Rasputin in the palace basement, which you can visit as part of a guided tour. The sumptuous palace interiors feature a blend of different styles, integrating period furniture and lavish tapestries with golden chandeliers and elaborate wall paintings. After you explore the basement crime scene, go up to the second floor, which features an elegant ballroom and an ornate private theater. • Very beautiful palace, kept in it's original way and gives you a good feeling how the rich were living around 1900. Audioguide available in English.

  • A wonderful palace with a truly royal interior. Dozens of fabulous rooms with interesting English and Russian descriptions. Worth a visit for sure.
  • Wonderful exposition as well as a guide. Not sure if there's an English one but they have an audio-tour or something like that. In-general, beautiful place, awesome stuff!
  • Whilst the gardens are pleasant, the visiting of the palace is a complete waste of time. The furnishings were missing like in the diningroom, just an empty large space, the bedroom had a very small amou t of non applicable tables and chairs etc,One could imagine the missing things however in order to understand one really should have those main pieces in the appropriate rooms. That is the whole idea for visiting these places of history..
