Yelagin Island, St. Petersburg

4.8
#2 of 19 in Nature in St. Petersburg
Enjoy a day of active fun on Yelagin Island. Named after a founding father of the Russian Freemasonry, the area originally served as an aristocratic retreat. Explore the walking or cycling paths, or rent a boat and set out on the canals and ponds. Dress up in 19th-century costumes and have your photo taken in the antique interior of the palace, which Alexander I commissioned for his mother, Empress Maria. Kids will like the ony rides, miniature trains, and playgrounds. During winter, the island also provides a good setting for skating, sledding, and skiing. Head to the plaza at the western tip for views of the Gulf of Finland. • A great place for families or couples, but even alone, here you can find complete peace. Silence from the auto highways, squirrels, birds, ducks, swans and geese. All this pleasure trips on the island!

  • Here loved walking my mom. Ride on roller's daughter and granddaughter. We wander there with my wife and summer (sometimes go boating) and Golden Autumn (if it happens), and winter. You can go to a museum or in a coffee shop, or just to look at tulips or on water. Only better-when people have less ...

  • The estate of Dowager Empress Maria fiodorovna, nowadays Adventureland. The Palace is closed for restoration, so visitors are few. Mainly moms with children, athletes on the run. I am not an expert in architecture, so I will not dwell on the details of the building. compared to other Palace ansabljami all but not less beautiful. In a separate case a variety of creative workshops for children and adults.

  • The park entrance is worth 100 rubles, works in the winter with 6 to 23. The Park is worth a visit necessarily: a look at the Elaginoostrovskogo palace complex (now the Palace, unfortunately, is closed for renovation), walk to the cosy, enjoy a coffee or mulled wine in many outdoor spots food, feed, if you're lucky, a protein hay for sale (we don't suck, but sturdy feeders in the Park a lot). There are rental of sports equipment

  • One of the most beautiful and well-kept places in St. Petersburg. Free admission on weekdays. You can ride on roller skates and bicycles, feed the squirrels and ducks, simply walking with your baby and breathe oxygen. Summer is here on weekends set various festivals and master classes from stritfuda to classical music.

Where to stay in St. Petersburg

For luxury hotels with a price tag to match, you can't beat the city's historical heart--Palace Square--and Nevsky Prospekt, the main avenue that connects the square to the Neva River. The area around St. Isaac's Cathedral, at the west end of Nevsky Prospekt, also offers a great selection of luxury and mid-range options. If you want to see the other side of the city, consider staying on Vasilyevsky Island, at the mouth of the river. Increased competition means that St. Petersburg now offers a wide range of inexpensive but funky hostels scattered throughout the city.
