  • We didn't get to see it from the inside, but the building is gorgeous! Essentially the whole building is decorated with the mosaic - it is really something special!
  • After all, this mosque stands out for the simplicity. We were coming back from the Fortress of St. Peter and St. Paul and in the distance we saw that Blue Dome and we decided to go walking down there. Too bad you don't get in. Seemed closed, was already a bit late and we noticed a little trace on your patio, maybe a reform. Dome and beautiful mosaics.

  • The only mosque in the city and the world's northernmost: is the Saint Petersburg mosque, Gur-e Amir in Samarkand. Built starting in the 10 and finished in the next decade, the Saint Petersburg Mosque is no more than the reduced representation but replica of the famous and impressive mausoleum in Samarkand, in Turkmenistan. The mosque has a large and beautiful ceramic dome Blue-Blue with 2 minarets predominantly gray. Its body is rectangular and monolithic façades, with gray walls and inlays of Oriental architecture, are carefully finished with grey granite and written in Arabic. Turquoise-blue gradient Arabic mosaics cover the walls of both minarets will impress the eyes of visitors and worshippers. Art lovers can pleasantly enjoy a mix of Northern stones and colourful ceramics of Central Asia. Fun fact: some fragments of the dome are exposed in the Museum of religions in Saint Petersburg (including advice of your visit). Unfortunately we were unable to examine you internally as renovations are currently underway that will continue at least until January 2017. Externally there is a yard all the way around the building and, currently, a temporary prayer tent reserved for men. Prayer for women instead is housed in the outer dome adjacent to the temporary tent. The inside visit so for now is suspended but a kind man (which unfortunately doesn't speak English) will receive you shyly with a slip with which it communicates that the Interior is not accessible due to work. In the past, it was the largest mosque in Europe: its minarets reach the 49 meters high while the dome well 39, giving the building stateliness and elegance. Today the mosque is also an educational and cultural center. We recommend a visit to this holy place and artistically very impressive.
