Monument
When walking along the Fontanka Embankment keep your eyes peeled for Statue of Chizhik-Pyzhik and don't miss the chance to hit a streak of good luck. Standing only 11 cm (4.3 in) tall, the statue of a siskin bird on the ledge of the embankment is one of the smallest in the city. The bird sits across from the building of the former Imperial School of Jurisprudence, whose students wore yellow-and-green uniforms resembling the feathers of a siskin, or "chizhik" in Russian. The students' boisterous behavior around neighborhood pubs served as the inspiration for the popular Chizhik-Pyzhik nursery rhyme about a drunken student. Bring small change when you visit the statue, because the tradition says that good luck will follow everyone who lands a coin on it from the top of the embankment. • One of the small surprises hidden in the labyrinth of the city. Not palaces with parks, of course, but such trifles create an atmosphere of Peter, full of small, inconspicuous in challenge released in the ground.

  • We go to chizhik-pyzhik already for the second time and each time wander around Mikhailovsky Castle, before you get to the place where he lives near the bridge, a small bronze bird. Chizhik very young by the standards of the historic town of monument-he lives in St. Petersburg from November 1994 onwards. Seemingly unremarkable monument is one of the most popular tourist places in St. Petersburg. In my opinion-though Siskin and smallest monument in St. Petersburg (and one of the smallest sculptures all over the world!), but the most mysterious and enigmatic. First you need to find an 11-cm bronze Bird on the Fontanka River at the 1-th bridge Engineering (I advise you to try without the Navigator is a quest), and then perform the mandatory for every tourist ritual-make a wish and throw in a few coins chizhika. And the coin should stay on the pedestal of the monument, and not fall into the river! Riding skill is considered to get a coin onto the birds (and coin should stay there), then the hidden wish will come true. Few have succeeded (if ever managed), however those wishing to test the accuracy and agility to the Shedd Aquarium has not dried up. Thus, when visiting chizhika-pyzhika must be in a good mood, a cherished desire and a handful of coins! Good luck!

  • Small bird statue, based on an old little song. You can try to land a coin on it, but it's more fun watching someone fishing up the missed coins with a magnet.
  • Interesting place, where you can try your luck and train to throw coins
  • take some coins with you and have fun
  • Nice little statue with an interesting story
  • You can look at this tiny bird when you are tired of already of Russian history
