Palace Bridge, St. Petersburg

(4.7/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
Walk across Palace Bridge, built after Emperor Nicholas I lifted Peter the Great's prohibition to construct bridges across the river. It was designed to provide an unobstructed view of the city. Composed of five cast iron spans, the 260 m (853 ft) bridge has a history dating back to a 1901 design competition. Deliberations lasted for eight years, after which the current design was chosen, although the bridge wasn't unveiled until 1916 because of the delays caused by the onset of World War I. The bridge is raised at night, making it difficult to get across the city, so be sure to be on the correct side of the river before it goes up. Watching the raising of the bridge can be quite a sight--stand on the shore or take a water tour to observe it from a closer distance. • Shore power and science connects the bridge. The Palace embankment from the University ... already interesting. The future Center of St. Petersburg (vasilievsky Ostrov), as conceived by Peter the great, who never became a centre, and the current city center, which became the HISTORICAL CENTRE in defiance of the emperor. Yes and the White Nights celebration celebrate having the center of Palace bridge.

  • Approximately from the end of April and the month of November begins the summer season. Divorce bridges in St. Petersburg is one of the most beautiful spectacles for the guests of the city. For me, as a resident of the northern capital bridges bussing today rather small burden, rather than a point of interest. Of course with the year 2005 this problem was partially solved by the construction of cable-stayed Bridge, which is not diluted. However, the distant location of the new bridge from downtown still delivers a lot of difficulties, St. Petersburg. Often at night easier to wait for the 15-minute staging summary valadarski Street, Annunciation or Tuchkogo bridge to perepravitsja on the opposite bank. The main thing to know a precise timetable wiring bridges.
