Nicholas Naval Cathedral of The Epiphany, St. Petersburg
(4.7/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
With its gold-domed roofs and gilded interior, it's hard to say whether Nicholas Naval Cathedral of The Epiphany is more ornate inside or out. The Baroque Russian Orthodox cathedral has always been intimately associated with the Russian Navy, as evidenced by the upper church's memorial plaques for crews of sunken Soviet marines. Built on the bank of the Kryukov Canal from 1753 to 1762, the massive cathedral can accommodate up to 5,000 people. Consider attending a mass to see it in all its glory. You can appreciate the cathedral's exterior from a boat cruise along the canal, or from the viewpoint of the bell tower. • Beautiful celadon operating continuously from 1762 onwards. In the upper Church "" floor "placed marble boards Crews killed submarines: k-429, k-154. k-219, k-278 Komsomolets, k-141" Kursk "and many others. 7 April in remembrance day submariners, dedicated to the day of the deaths in 1989 year nuclear submarine Komsomolets moleben and assembled veterans and current divers. We meet here to remember those who are no longer with us. In 80-ies as Cadet Frunze VVMU I and my companions visited this temple. And we baptized my son here. Near the temple there is a garden with children's playground and a small obelisk dedicated to seamen killed in the Russo-Japanese war of 1905 year.
