Nicholas Naval Cathedral of The Epiphany, St. Petersburg

(4.7/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
With its gold-domed roofs and gilded interior, it's hard to say whether Nicholas Naval Cathedral of The Epiphany is more ornate inside or out. The Baroque Russian Orthodox cathedral has always been intimately associated with the Russian Navy, as evidenced by the upper church's memorial plaques for crews of sunken Soviet marines. Built on the bank of the Kryukov Canal from 1753 to 1762, the massive cathedral can accommodate up to 5,000 people. Consider attending a mass to see it in all its glory. You can appreciate the cathedral's exterior from a boat cruise along the canal, or from the viewpoint of the bell tower. • My favorite Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Magnificent architecture. Amazing location, great belfry. go every day. Especially solemn services are held on the second floor. Wonderful icons.

  • Not quite as imposing as some of the others, but this was a working church, not a museum. The separate bell tower is famous and unusual.
  • I was in this beautiful Cathedral in the summer of 2015 onwards, and he immediately impressed. But in January 2017 I opened it again to find the second floor (and as I could not notice?!). In the Cathedral is always quiet and warm atmosphere, despite the large number of parishioners and tourists, but the most important thing is its luxurious decoration and icons. The second floor has struck me a luxurious finish and a combination of deep blue with gold decoration. Delightful dome and ceiling types do not leave anyone indifferent to this place. I came to the Cathedral and just see icons, and stand at the service. I advise everyone to visit the nikolo-Bogoyavlensky Cathedral in the sea!
