New Holland Island is a historic triangular artificial island in Saint Petersburg, Russia, dating from the 18th century.HistoryThe island was created in 1719, when the newly built Kryukov Canal and Admiralty Canal connected the Moika River with the Neva. The triangular island took its name after a number of canals and shipbuilding facilities that rendered its appearance similar to Amsterdam. Peter the Great took the opportunity to create a naval port, including a wooden palace for his own use.During the following centuries, the island belonged to the Russian Admiralty, which would adapt the plot for its various needs. Originally, there was a minor shipyard for rowing boats. In 1732, the Admiralty engaged architect Ivan Korobov to construct a network of basins and wooden warehouses along the island's perimeter in order to store lumber for shipbuilding. In 1765, Savva Chevakinsky was ordered to rebuild the warehouses in brick but without customary stucco decoration. By 1788, when the project was halted, Jean-Baptiste Vallin de la Mothe had designed and supervised the construction of a highly pitched Neoclassical arch over the canal. This magnificent red-brick gateway to the island, known as the New Holland Arch, is flanked by massive Tuscan columns of red granite.

  • The Park was part of the summer, it was still under construction, but open for visitors to the territory, quite enough for me to obljubovat this place. Admission is free (at least at the time of my stay there), there is a protection. In the area of the park themed art exhibitions, the truth is I was on them, saw posters. Everything is there to take a break from the bustling city. Here quietly, calmly, on the territory of the park there are free Ottomans and chairs where you can sit. In warm weather, you can sit, and even lie down directly on the grass-very clean and tidy. Also there is a pier, playground, café, restaurant, I bought a hot dog, very much, the truth is not cheap by my standards. All in all a very nice place to relax, want to see finally renovated Park and hope that in the future there will be better and better.

  • European-style leisure park, a small but cozy. in winter an ice rink, occupies a large part of the Park, but by itself is not very ambitious (even in Sunday afternoon was not very much). There are a lot of establishments where you can grab a snack in the building, which is called "bottle". There are warm, beautiful, nice, both inside and outside. If you are travelling from Moscow, I can say that this park recalls the "Hermitage" garden blend and departed us vessel Bryusov in Muzeone.

  • Was two days in St. Petersburg and came up with a walking route to specifically go to New Holland. Found a very nice space with its restored buildings, comfortable territory, current rink and a very pleasant place, "bottle", which can be a tasty snack. On the ground floor of round buildings are cafes with samples from around the world. Only in the northern capital, under the roof in a warm, cozy space. Go around the circle and choose. Elsewhere, a couple of cafes and restaurants. Around the rink and throughout the Park work gas burners, which can warm up. In winter the whole lawn is covered with fence to fly he was able to take fans to sit on the grass. Children's playground too just for a warm time. While throughout the Islands many parents with kids on the slide and skating rink. More such places in the city.

  • I love this place - it's really nice, atmosphere is friendly, all facilities are new and really high quality. Plenty of things to do with kids - this really is a green oasis in the middle of big city. Restaurants and bars are reasonably priced and food really tasty. This is the must to visit! Thank you all guys, who are behind this project - you really are cool! Keep on going same way!
  • Trendy, hipster-friendly chill-out park, worth visiting.
  • ENNOBLED, ALTHOUGH SOME LOCAL (LIVING), DIDN'T LIKE IT AND THEY THINK TAXPAYERS ' MONEY AGAIN MERGED INTO THE EMPTY. THE RINK IS GOOD AND IN PRINCIPLE AVAILABLE (SLIGHTLY MORE EXPENSIVE MANY NOT COVERED IN THE CITY, BUT STILL), QUALITY ICE LOVERS GO. THEMED SHOPS IN "BOTTLE" TOO. IT IS WORTH TO MAKE A CIRCLE. IN SUMMER, BEAUTIFULLY DECORATE AND DO LIGHT HOLIDAYS. IN GENERAL, YOU CAN SPEND A FEW HOURS GOING FOR UNDER 18S. I HOPE FOR THE EXPANSION OF THE PROGRAM ON THE ISLAND. WHILE STRONG CHETVJORA. 4!

  • Great place. Go indulge in Contex pro and after happily I go into any restaurant to dine or just take a coffee with you. All employees are always ready to help and all very friendly. That profound regret a rarity in Russia. Wonderful ice rink, the truth is somewhere from 1 up to 4 there better not appearing, crush. But if the skates you are not attracted to, you can go on wonderful salons in the bottle or sweet shops) Very recommend.

  • 11.01.18 Me misinform guard New Holland-Alexander, who works with October 17 years, saying that they had on the street does not operate a tow truck and car can be left under the sign. After half an hour my car was taken away. Alexander patted eyes and said that tow truck summoned tenants. But the question, as he learned about it, he shouted out the window? It follows from this that the protection calls itself jevakutor, likely over a rollback. Ask teach your guards rules of conduct and does not give unfounded advice.

Where to stay in St. Petersburg

For luxury hotels with a price tag to match, you can't beat the city's historical heart--Palace Square--and Nevsky Prospekt, the main avenue that connects the square to the Neva River. The area around St. Isaac's Cathedral, at the west end of Nevsky Prospekt, also offers a great selection of luxury and mid-range options. If you want to see the other side of the city, consider staying on Vasilyevsky Island, at the mouth of the river. Increased competition means that St. Petersburg now offers a wide range of inexpensive but funky hostels scattered throughout the city.
