To see Saint Petersburg from a different perspective, take a walk or boat tour along Neva Embankments. City planners originally built these embankments of wood and sand, intending to stabilize the riverbanks and provide the city with much-needed flood protection. During the final decades of the 18th century, as Pushkin put it, "the Neva dressed herself in granite." In addition to providing necessary flood control, the granite embankments transformed the appearance of the growing city. The landmark steps, sculptures, and docks along the river, designed by some of Russia's most prominent architects, gave Saint Petersburg the elegant look of a modern city. A visit to Neva Embankments represents just the start of the adventure when you use our St. Petersburg vacation route planner to plot your vacation.

  • We did the tour having already explored the city in every way. Just missing the boat. Have not regretted. The ride is short and is not as expensive. We took the boat on the canal near the Fabergé Museum. He did a course of 1 hour at dusk. Passed by the river Neva and some channels with building beautiful and others less so. But it's always a different view. As it was getting cold too donated blankets. Some bridges are very low and you have to get down enough, I thought even a little dangerous. Even in Amsterdam the bridges are so low. Don't go thinking it will be a tour like Amsterdam, definitely is well below. What's more, at this time we were, explanation only in Russian. 'Re floatin' in the channels. lol

  • I love the quays in all cities, but in St. Petersburg they are special. Here you are not just walking, and how would swim along the water, forced by the wind. Here blows Peter's history, and you start to imagine those distant times, when the city was built only and no embankments. Here the smells of the sea, which, actually, no, but perfectly replaces Gulf. Yes and sea gulls that seem not a hindrance. Walk along the quays! In pairs, with seven alone-in any case, you will not regret!
