  • After visiting monument I.k. Aivazovsky we approached the building of the former school and Italian Pilot pond. In between (closer to the College) is a monument to native of Kronstadt-P.c. Pahtusovu. The first researcher of the new Earth. Only after 40 years after the death of the great Navigator and Polar Explorer, in the year 1875 navigators have requested installation of the monument to Pyotr Kuzmich Pahtusovu, and in 1886, he was open.

  • Kronstadt-birthplace of wonderful Polar Explorer, Navigator Peter Kuzmich hydrograph and Pahtusova. He lived a short (just 35 years of age), but bright life. He graduated from the Navigation school in 28 years participated in the expedition of Polar Explorer F.p. Litke. In the 32 years he himself led an expedition for the exploration of the new land. Over 40 years after his death, the navigators had asked to install the monument. For 9 years has collected 9200 USD. The monument created by the project of Professor of the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of arts n. i. Lavereckogo. And he's great. In the right hand Navigator keeps a map of the new Earth, deployed to Cape Long, limit his work. On the pedestal knocked out a wonderful motto: "use. Courage. Work. "that is the meaning of life.

  • Immediately see what is the difference between the "old" monuments of modern "novodelov"! Beautiful monument on the banks of the Italian pond. This person is often and wrongly (!) happens to be forgotten, and did it very much. Be sure to go around the monument around and read all the slogans on it!

Where to stay in St. Petersburg

For luxury hotels with a price tag to match, you can't beat the city's historical heart--Palace Square--and Nevsky Prospekt, the main avenue that connects the square to the Neva River. The area around St. Isaac's Cathedral, at the west end of Nevsky Prospekt, also offers a great selection of luxury and mid-range options. If you want to see the other side of the city, consider staying on Vasilyevsky Island, at the mouth of the river. Increased competition means that St. Petersburg now offers a wide range of inexpensive but funky hostels scattered throughout the city.
