  • Exquisite monument dedicated to Nicolas I, the quality and attention to details is just wonderful. Located also in between some spectacular and historic buildings. A beautiful place with outstanding sights.
  • The monument depicts Nicholas I, a determined absolutist Russian ruler, as a powerful military figure. However, being a junior army officer at heart, Nicholas I was especially devoted to his troops and was intricately involved in the details of the military
  • one of the very few monuments of a czarist ruler that wasn't touched/destroyed by the soviets. due to its fine structure, finally an equestrian statue that can stand on only the two backside legs having the two frontal ones lifted in the air. its location between St Isaac's cathedral and Mariinsky palace and surrounded by many more historical buildings (e.g.the former german embassy) just adds to the fact of it being worth a visit.
  • It is a very impressive building that is worth a picture and a stop on a tour, but the downside is it's by the road, so there are many cars everywhere and it makes it rather inconvenient. Still a must see, though!
  • On a deserted, wave-swept shore, He stood – in his mind great thoughts grow –And gazed afar...Amazing!!! Awesome!!!

Where to stay in St. Petersburg

For luxury hotels with a price tag to match, you can't beat the city's historical heart--Palace Square--and Nevsky Prospekt, the main avenue that connects the square to the Neva River. The area around St. Isaac's Cathedral, at the west end of Nevsky Prospekt, also offers a great selection of luxury and mid-range options. If you want to see the other side of the city, consider staying on Vasilyevsky Island, at the mouth of the river. Increased competition means that St. Petersburg now offers a wide range of inexpensive but funky hostels scattered throughout the city.
