  • Mariinsky Palace, (located on the South side of St. Isaac's square, along the Blue River Bridge Washing) built on the orders of Emperor Nicholas I (whose equestrian monument can be seen at the square in front of the Palace) to his daughter Grand Duchess Maria Nikolaevna. It was a wedding gift to her marriage with Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg, whose father was Eugene de Beauharnais, stepson of Napoleon Bonaparte.

  • Mariyinsky Palace (mid-19 century, the architect Andrei Stackenschneider) is the second dominant feature of St. Isaac's square for St. Isaac's Cathedral. Architect, St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, it seems to me, given the building was designed by Church opposite the Cathedral, as it is pretty well with the Cathedral. Palace size comparable to that of a cathedral, but the Palace as would be inferior to the leadership Council, not trying to drag the attention. To me it seemed much more interesting than another architecture work Shtakenshnejdera, which recently saw Nicholas Palace on Labour square. Generally about the life story of Mary, daughter of Nicholas I, the name of which was the Palace read very interesting. Like his brother, Tsar Alexander II, the morganatic second marriage. After the death of Mary, the Palace was bought by the Treasury and has since largely used to accommodate various governmental structures, except after the move of the Government in Moscow in 1918 to 1945 year. So the current its role perfectly fits into the overall history of the Palace.

  • Isaac's square, opposite the Church, dominates the immense space with its massive bulk. Today it houses the Town Hall and the roof waving the flag of Russia and St Petersburg. Very nice in the evening thanks to a lighting

  • Historic palace built by orders of Nicholas I as a wedding present to his daughter. Now functions as a legislative hall for the city.
