Kazan Cathedral, St. Petersburg
(4.7/5 based on 2,600+ reviews on the web)
Modeled after one of the Vatican's major landmarks, Kazan Cathedral houses a world-famous icon of Our Lady of Kazan, one of the most significant religious images of Orthodox Christianity. Built in the early years of the 19th century, the classically designed building boasts a massive dome, dominating this part of the city from a height of some 80 m (260 ft). The lavishly decorated cathedral features numerous columns, sculptures, and icons, created by some of the biggest names in Russian art. Famed sculptor Boris Orlovsky designed the bronze statues of the Napoleonic War heroes Barclay de Tolly and Mikhail Kutuzov, whose remains lie interred inside the cathedral. Put Kazan Cathedral into our St. Petersburg holiday planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • An expression of art neoclassicism with abundant columns that make it impressive to this Cathedral which was built in the early 19TH century. Gable looks gold embossed the "triangle" of GOD from which emanate abundant flashes. Some statues adorn the complex. It belongs to the Russian Orthodox Church and it pays tribute to the Virgin of Kazan. Highly recommended visit. Petersburgo enjoy an Imperial City... a beautiful city. LIFE...! It IS a trip!

  • One of the largest temples in St. Petersburg. It contains a list of venerated the miraculous icon of the mother of God of Kazan. In order to bow down to it, it is worth to go and stand in the queue for 2-3 hours. Every day turn to it. In the Cathedral are placed the keys to cities and made other war trophies. Also in the Cathedral is represented by another Christian relic-a copy of the shroud of Jesus Christ.
