Grand Maket Russia, St. Petersburg

Boasting one of the largest railway models in Europe, Grand Maket Russia features a three-dimensional layout with mountains, lakes, forests, rivers, and small towns. Hundreds of modelers and artists worked on this display, opened in 2012 with the aim of introducing visitors to the country's diverse communities and lifestyles. The layout contains street scenes depicting modern Russia, with functioning factories, flying helicopters, moving cars, and lifelike figures of people and animals. The museum's two-level railroad links the entire setup, with automatic changes from day to night and back giving the representation an added feeling of reality. Photography is permitted free of charge, so don't forget to bring your camera. • I'm a big model enthusiast and visited several such displays throughout Europe. Until now, I regarded the Hamburg one being the best, but now, honestly the St. Pet's doesn't have a match - in one...  more »

  • Be ready for noise, kids, sounds, people around and walking quite a lot. This exhibition gives nice idea about how big the country is. You can even feel how the atmosphere changes from east to west...  more »
  • This is all of Russia in one place! Pleasantly surprised to see the intricate details in the displays. Gives an overview of Russia and if you’re a tourist it will definitely give you a better picture of how Russia is like. Spent a good 3 hours to appreciate this miniature Russia.
  • The great model of the whole country. Very accurate representation of many Russian regions including typical characters and situation. Worth seeing for small and grownups and especially modellers!
  • Great place to spend an afternoon. Fantastic set of models and functional train systems. You could get lost watching everything work. The sunset and sunrise across the various different timezones is brilliantly done and there are a few secrets to be found. Most items have both Russian and English language so it is good for locals and tourists. You can also see the workshop and have an opportunity to purchase a photo of yourself exploring the exhibition
  • Excellent for kids. It represents whole parts of the Russia in a single area. Enjoyable & knowledgeable for kids. My children enjoyed lots.
  • As far as models go, this is pretty amazing. 800 square metres of a.model; wow. So much detail. Cool how it changes from day to night. There is an on-site Cafe with average food.
