Grand Choral Synagogue, St. Petersburg

(4.7/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
One of the largest synagogues in Europe, Grand Choral Synagogue features a lavish interior and exterior ornamentation. With the capacity to accommodate 1,200 guests, it boasts the status of both a national landmark and an architectural monument of federal importance. Standing 47 m (154 ft) tall, the building dominates the area's landscape. Built using Moorish decorative techniques in 1888, it remains flawlessly preserved. Inside you'll see brightly colored walls, polished pillars, and highly detailed oval ceilings. Pay particular attention to the stained-glass windows and decorative arches, some of which are suspended without supporting pillars. Contact the site in advance if you want to reserve a guided tour. • I recommend to visit the Great Central Synagogue! Very beautiful architecture! Inside the light hovers the solemnity of some sort, there is grandeur. The synagogue can come in virtually any time (available days for visiting written on their official website), regardless of religion. Gladly going yet!

  • Very beautiful building, interesting story of its creation, the history of the Jewish community. Has been on tours led by Kantor. After an hour's lecture, Kantor answered all of our questions in detail, explaining us those or other provisions. On the proposal of one of the attendees graciously accepted. Amazing voice. Very warm memories. Thank you

  • This place of prayer is open to the public for visit outside of religious services. Here too we find the white and gold of the St. Petersburg Palace. This synagogue is worth by its size, it has been renovated in the early 2000s. It is classified historical monument. A little thirsty, hungry nothing easier than to get to the restaurant located in a building on the left, to quench your needs. There is a shop but it was closed when we came here. Note this place is accessible to everyone, out of respect I advise the men to do her hair to a yarmulke self-service at the entrance.
