Grand Choral Synagogue, St. Petersburg

One of the largest synagogues in Europe, Grand Choral Synagogue features a lavish interior and exterior ornamentation. With the capacity to accommodate 1,200 guests, it boasts the status of both a national landmark and an architectural monument of federal importance. Standing 47 m (154 ft) tall, the building dominates the area's landscape. Built using Moorish decorative techniques in 1888, it remains flawlessly preserved. Inside you'll see brightly colored walls, polished pillars, and highly detailed oval ceilings. Pay particular attention to the stained-glass windows and decorative arches, some of which are suspended without supporting pillars. Contact the site in advance if you want to reserve a guided tour. • A synagogue that one can visit which is not always the case, it's already a good point. If you're in the neighborhood do not hesitate to stop inside is quite nice and the façade is not devoid of interest. Admission is free.
