(240+ reviews on the web)
Historic Site
Explore the historic imperial residence of past tsars at Gatchina Palace and Park. One hour's drive away from St. Petersburg, the palace sits atop the hills above Lake Serebryannoe, combining themes reminiscent of both a country residence and a medieval castle. Although originally built in 1766 for Count Orlov, Catherine the Great fell in love with the property and upon his death purchased and gifted the palace to her son, the future Emperor Paul I. Explore hundreds of rooms and numerous collections, including furniture, porcelain, antique weapons, sculptures, paintings, tapestries, and textiles. Information about the displays is written in English. Be sure to check out the secret underground tunnel and hear its famous echo before exiting. Afterwards, take a stroll through the large park and around the several lakes. Make Gatchina Palace and Park a centerpiece of your St. Petersburg vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our St. Petersburg vacation planner.

  • Many lakes, calm birds, beavers, squirrels, here you can find the one corner of the park that will be right for you. In my opinion an excellent place for walking with small children, and for quiet walks with your favorite) to visit recommend sunny summers, in late spring, when no longer have to be buried in the mud of zemljannyh tracks) and of course the snow in winter, the Park is very different in each of the seasons, the main thing is to successfully choose the day to visit)

  • unexpectedly for us very disappointed quest in Gatchina. long chose where to take a class in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region is now very many excursions and museums. the choice fell on the Palace in gatchina, because now children very interesting quest format ... nothing like the word "quest" we have not seen. but most of all a slew of leading ... without emotions with sad face monotonously spoken text. It's the same kids 11 years old, they still have no interest in museums and art. they should be encourage, game, encouraging emotions, they are very easy to carry, but it needs work. ... I would have fallen asleep herself from such a game ... very sorry for the wasted time. the whole class replied "we don't", though earlier we went to different Museum in St. Petersburg and all enjoyed. at the end of one boy came up to mom and asked, "and when will the quest? I have already tired of here" (although quest has already ended both times). We visited 19 March at 12:30

  • Park of Gatchina Palace is beautiful in spring as in either summer or winter here but especially gorgeous Golden autumn. You can stroll along white Lake where is also a boat station (in the summer you can take this boat or Kathamaran), island of love, you can visit romantic Venus Pavilion and close look at the Birch Bunny mask portal. Parkland is located in centre of historical town Gatchina so that you can easily reach the Park as centre of Gatchina also see access to the Park is currently free of charge
