  • Very impressive collection. Spacious room, quiet and cosy. Especially if rainy, chilly weather, I recommend to go see, to the best of their interest. Course for students and professional geologists and related industries is the place as library rocks and minerals contained in them. Because thanks to the dedication of our ancestors and such diverse minerals we can admire the descendants, and is proud of the fruits of their labors in the most beautiful Russian cities such as St. Petersburg, an open-air museum. I like Charoite.

  • History of the Museum begins with 19 January 1882, when reporting on the State Council of Russia by Emperor Alexander III approved "regulation on the geological Committee of Russia" (Geolkome). In this "Situation" as one of the tasks was recorded "picking up rocks and minerals and drafting of these thematic collections system. The exposition of the Museum is divided into two major exhibitions: "Regional Geology" and "minerals". One of the unique exhibits of the Museum is a monument to Russian stone-cutting art of the 30-ies of XX century-Panel "industry of socialism", made in the technique of Florentine and Russian mosaic of jewelry and semi-precious stones. The idea of creating a map of industrialization originated in 1936, in the run-up to the 20-th anniversary of October revolution. Map was created for 11 months and in May 1937 g. exhibited at the world exhibition in Paris, and in April 1939-at the world's fair in New York. In 1946, map was transferred to the State Hermitage Museum and exhibited in St George's Hall until 1982, and in 1987, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of culture transferred to permanent storage in the CNIGR Museum. akad. F.n. Chernyshev. Panels square 26.6 m2 is an exact map of the USSR of scale 1:500 1 000000. Cities and towns are marked with a gold-plated silver stars with inserts from an artificial rubies. The line parallels, meridians, railways and all geographical names are made of platinirovannogo silver. In nakladnom décor used faceted aquamarine stones, artificial rubies, topazes, phenacite, rhinestone, noble Opal. On the stands near cards can better examine gemstones faceted stones, of which made such a unique map. The longer view, the better you understand the scope of such work and respect for the people who created this piece of stone-cutting art! Visit to the Museum is free, for a fee only tours and photography-100 USD. The people in the little Museum that allows you to enjoy the contemplation of the minerals and get great pleasure! At the entrance of the building of the Institute to call on the internal phone number (say a security guard), announce the intention to visit a Museum and a museum employee will come for you, accompanied by which you will pass in this fascinating world of gems, minerals and not only.
